I got this Tyco Struthiomimus today and noticed that it appears to have feathers! Coming from 1987 (I think) could this be the first dinosaur toy manufactured with feathers? Anyone know of any others?

Well...I wasn't really thinking of Archeopteryx when I started the thread. Though I don't discount it as a dinosaur many people at the time did.

I think there was a feathered raptor that was even older... A metal figure or a kit, perhaps? I dont think it was a plastic toy. It was something I ran into on collector's quest, from a person who owns a huge vintage dino collection.

That raptor is really cool, shame there aren't better pictures of it.

WHoa! Have you seen all the other pics from that collection?!?! Incredible! *drools* Yes, i know, it's quite impressive So much stuff I've never seen anywhere else, let alone in person... It's for sale for $55,000 BTW, I really like this thread - the figure Seijun found will probably be this first feathered dinosaur toy, but you never know, maybe something else will surface.

Its not older than the ones already listed but its still ahead of its time with regards to feathers. If anyone remembers the Primal Rage franchise? One of the characters was a dromaeosaur named Talon who had feathers.

Looked more like a statue to me. Really cool regardless and I'm glad I started the thread just so I could see it. It looks like the feathers are almost made to look like scales, perhaps the maker was trying to create an intermediate stage between the two. Really retro stuff that was also ahead of its time.

Your right, it's not a toy, but a statuette or something - but as you say, cool nonetheless
