The feathers covered half of the lower jaw....that was unexpected. This suggests that the feather cover of therizinosaurs and dromaeosaurids could be more extense than we tought. Nice discovery!

Yes,but they look more like "fur" than the alleged long feathers some people keep on putting on Raptors and such...

woot! more feathers!
(After watching Dinosaur Planet and reading Holtz's Dinosaurs, I've decided that I'm completely on board with the feathered maniraptoran concept....)
I wonder, though, if those elongate feathers are really so useless, and whether a baby Beipi could use them for wing-assisted incline running. We'll know in a few years, I think.

AH! First of all Psittacosaurus bristles are NOT feathers but quills, like in the hedgehog...Then,we have proof of true feathers only in basal Dromeosaurids, which were closer to birds than derived, more proper "Raptors". And the "Therizinosaurid" you mention is Caudipteryx, which was actually an OVIRAPTORID...

Do´h! i forget oviraptorids. Psitacosaurus with hedgedog quills? well, i don´t think, it is rather hair-like protofeathers, like this of Beipiasaurus, but longer and more flexible. What do you mean with more proper "raptors"? predatory birds like hawks and eagles? or the monster-like and innacurate stereotype of JP? because all are maniraptorians. And feathered. ;D

We have NO proof of it,only guesses based on the fossils of their ancestors...And saying that, for example,a Deinonychus MUST be feathered because Microraptor was...Sorry,but i don't buy it. And JP Raptors ROCK ;D

Wow, that is a gorgeous fossil! Man I wish so badly that I could see a live dinosaur just to know what color it was! I'll bet those feathers around the throat were very prominently colored.

Nice fossil! Although the chinese "farmers" must be collaborating a lot to make a few specimens of biepiaosaurus feathered! ;D
And I don't see the problem with a feathered dienonychus. Besides, they would only lose feathers if they somehow "harmed" or "slowed down" the animals.

What a nice fossil, I wish we'd get at least some casts of these sorts of fossils in the museum. I'm not gonna jump into the feather debate, I'm a big fan of the feather concept myself - but if I start to see art with Iguanodons frolicing about with feathers, well, I'll definately raise an eyebrow. Maybe even two
