I am SO behind on everything dino. I was perusing the JP toy forum, after passing the various security checks, , and apparently I missed this whole T-rex had three fingers thing. Since I am sick, and do not feel like wading through a crap load of old posts over there, could anyone here clue me in on what that was all about, and the final disposition of it, if any? Just kinda curious.

Ya, I do believe he is looking better. I find it odd. I have re-repainted the carnotaurus, and allosaurus (papo), and painted a rex, bully allo charcaro etc, all basically greys greens and really dark colors. menacing colors, and they just look **better** that way. I guess it doesn't make any real biological sense, but they just look better looking mean and menacing. And those who don't know, there are more pics of it in the custom figure thread. The rest of you know where. Oh, and that close up of the face makes a nice little avatar doesn't it? Well, as cool as a blemished worthless hunk of plastic junk can be, anyway....

Jesus Christ that Carnotaurus is cool. Why would you tell that to Jesus? ;D As for three-fingered rexes, when first discovered, there was no reason to assume that any theropod had less than 3 fingers--so early depictions will show 3 fingers. Later, tyrannosaurid material was found that had two fingers (in different species) so it was assumed that they should only have two--as borne out by much later discoveries of T rex hands.

Yes, but I have been reading posts about some new evidence of three fingers in a new rex specimen, and then it was two fused fingers and one separate, then the whole thing is discredited. And something about Peck's rex? I do not know what it is all about, so if it is one of those throw down and argue topics then never mind. I was just looking to catch the quick low down on all of the fuss.

I'm pretty sure it's just vestigial. T.rex had a third finger in the same sense that Humans have tails. I believe they're also known from Albertosaurs, and they are tiny.
So it doesn't change anything.
