I had a major financial problem with paypal from using paypal when selling on ebay- lost hundreds of dollars-plus they cancelled my account and cleared out the remaining money I had in it from a payment sent to me by a cutomer- and I know a few others that have had problems as well -one suffered a MAJOR financial setback due to paypal practices- just wondered if any of you have had any problems- if you use paypal you should really read the stuff on this site- beware- www.paypalsucks.com/

I have used Paypal for almost 10 years now--same as Ebay. I may not like fees, but as anyone with a business knows, you always pay fees (do you really think debit & credit cards are 'free' for the retailers?). I have never had an issue, and in fact, a seller that refuses Paypal can be a decider for me (unless I really want something--I believe it happened for a couple Starlux lots before the French got into it).
Fact is, I like that the payment is instant; I can get it there NOW, or it gets to me NOW.

Well I can tell you this- once I get up and running properly with this figure business- I would not be using paypal, I will have an alternate payment method-credit cards- available and anyone who doesn't like it just won't be able to get my figures any longer- I lost over 1200.00 to paypal because of their unethical business practices- there are a lot of sellers that have had similar experiences- basically they are not a bank and are not regulated at this point like banks and credit cards are- they can pretty much do what they want with your account and your money-it isn't the same for buyers who only see it as a convenience- for sellers you are using them at your own risk, believe me-it isn't a question of the fees they charge- I realize that credit cards charge fees- but al least with credit cards the seller has better rights-

I'm extremely hesitant about using my credit card, especially over the internet, even with all the fail-safes and rights if something goes wrong. Personally I like paypal (as a buyer) because I do not need to link it to my bank - its a self-contained system for me with money going in and money going out.
Dinonikes, can't you use paypay for the convenience of your customers and shoot the cash from Paypal into your bank periodically so your paypal account never gets too high? I mean, use it as a tool rather than as the basis for your business.

I have an account linked to me Paypal, but I've never had a balance in there long enough to transfer it.

I always transferred any payments immediately to my bank account- never let a balance ride in my paypal account- everything was fine for quite a while- I was selling on ebay for years- then i ran into the problems- and that is when I learned all about paypal and just how much paypal has you over a barrel- and how quickly things can go wrong once you are in the paypal mire- I understand it is convenient for customers-I have let a few members use my wife's paypal account to buy some of my figures- but that is just a short term thing, not an option long term-not a lot of money transferring at this point- once I get going with tis figure line though I won't be using paypal- don't have an account any longer-not an option- I will find alternatives-I understand the reluctance to use credit cards online- but there are always other options as well- checks, money orders-if someone really wants my figures there are ways to work it out- if I lose some customers who for some reason can only buy things with paypal so be it-I hate to lose any potential collectors, but it won't be an option open to me anyways- so its a moot point really-
Paypal came up when i started to list my figures for sale and I just thought I would just say, beware of paypal, sellers- to just give a warning to any members that might sell on ebay and who might use paypal to take payments- just beware- I was going along fine too, no problems- its just like any other of life's problems- you never think it will happen to you until it does- it might happen to you too- good luck if it does-

Well I am sorry to hear that- its not my choice, you can blame paypal- I would just as soon use them as not- I do understand that not offering paypal as an option will limit sales- I will just have to live with that as I have no other option- I guess that collectors will have to get my stuff in the after market if they can't get them directly from me- I will make them and get them out regardless, I can't let paypal's decisions regarding my case stop me from doing what I do-make things- I think that there will be collectors that will buy from me if they really want them regardless of a loss of convenience- especially once I am offering figures of species that aren't offered anywhere else- and I think the quality if I can make it high will attract customers as well- regardless of paypal or not- I had many customers on ebay that didn;t want to use paypal for reasons of their own- one of my best regulars always prefers to send me a check which is fine with me- I can only do what I can do- can't change what has happened to me-

My experience as an eBay seller accepting Paypal was not as bad as Malcolm's and I still stopped selling on eBay once the former site mandated that sellers accept all forms of Paypal payments, which would add charges to all of my payments received--not just those wherein the source of funds is a credit card.
If there'd been a reasonable alternative, I'd have stopped using the company much sooner, as its policies and employees, based upon their training, are duplicitous, manipulative, dishonest, self-serving, etc.
As it was, I didn't start using it until long after it was available.
If anyone wants Malcolm's figures, there are ways to pay for them. Overseas buyers can use Western Union. Yes, there's a substantial fee, but if buying a number of figures at once, the combined shipping will offset it. They can also pay other board members via Paypal and have those members forward accepted payments to Malcolm.
No need for drama or panic.

And no need to blame him. If it is not physically an option for him, like he says, then there is nothing he can do. He is just advising us of the problem. It mat suck for us, but it is not like he can just wave a little wand and make it all better....
