Hi All; Three photos of my boring little Kiayodo and other Japanese/Australian figures collection (essentially figures that came along with the pterosaurs that I bought). It is a rather pale collection compared to those of Boki, sbell and others on the forum - so don't bother hassling me on something I already know. ;D And I still wish I had a shred of Boki's photographic talents. I bow before the great collectors You are going to drag me into collecting far to many groups!!! Cheers, Deanm Direct Overhead view. Side view Oblique overhead view

No dino collection, by definition can ever be boring. They were the most extraordinary critters. And, as I can;t get these, I am quite envious of those that have them.

Cheers, Deanm Oh, come on, it's such a cute little collection... ;D Think of it this way--trying to get a full set of Dinotales now will set you back way more than is reasonable. I know that I went after them several years ago, back before they became really well known (and a lot more expensive). As an interesting pterosaur aside, the one figure that eluded me the longest was the Series 4 Pteranodon! Eventually, I bought an entire second Series 4, then sold the rest, just to get one figure. It was still cheaper than the only one on ebay at the time. I now curse that I did not keep the extra Xenacanthus--why would I do that?

The display case is a Queen Anne replica table. My wife and I got it years ago as a wedding present . We started putting fossils & rocks plus other nature stuff in it so we would not have to dust them and so we could display the various things. I started putting the Kaiyoda type stuff in it and it sort of took off from there.
I hate dusting so putting stuff under glass limits the amount of dusting I have to do. I just need to find more space for glass cases so I can expand out and better organize/display the collection.

Like sbell I got most of them through buying in groups to get a particular figure and I got lucky on a few ebay autions where there were 8 - 10 figures for the price of "one or two" overpriced figures. I probably used up my karma/luck getting these instead of the WwD ornith.

They weren't over priced when I bought them--circa 2001, and then immediately upon release after that. Now? I would be choosier.

Nice use of a table ;D I have not dared to photograph my entire kaiyodo collection! There seems to be so many little parts that can fall and never be found again ;D What the Dinosaur project? Is that an insert? Very nice.

The Dinosaur Project is a stone slab that was both sand-blasted & polished with a stencil. It is from a travelling exhibit back in the early 1990's. The exhibit was a jointly put on to host & highlight the work of a chinese and canadian palentology effort. It was an amazing exhibit. It was there that I saw a Mamenchasurus (sorry for the mis-spelling) skeleton and a number of other chinese finds.
As I recall, the stone slab was the coolest souvenir that was at the show. They had a number of cheap & cheesy toys (and no doubt if I remebered them better I would be kicking myself) but that slab stood out.

I actually have seen it twice, once in Victoria, BC and once here in Seattle ( Science Center). The mamenchi skeleton is AMAZING! It really has a loooooon neck! I have not seen the slab that you have in either exhibit though

We bought the slab when the show was in Edmonton, AB. From what I remember, it was one of the first North American stops as most of the Canadian paleo types can from the Royal Tyrrell Museum (Phil Currie & crew).
It was a great show. My wife and I really enjoyed it. Aside from the Mamench. there were anumber of other mounted dinosaurs including a large theropod. Do you remember which one?

I like that display case And exactly this reminds me of the thread I once opend concerning "How do you display your dinosaurs?" It´s a nice collection and in no way boring, and of course I LOVE the display case - it fits the value of those Kaiyodos perfectly.

I also now remember going to a traveling exhibit of Chinese dinosaurs in Oregon. It's the one with a really big sauropod, not mamenchi, but something else. It looks like a camara only bigger! Ring a bell? It's time they go on the road again! I really enjoyed those shows ;D

I agree with you, I would love to see those shows back on the road again! I went to the Royal Ontario Museum last year when they re-openned the dinosaur exhibit. Well worth it if you are in the Toronto area! I need to go to the Tyrrell again to get my dino fix.
