Today I read through the whole 'Dino Toy Line Questions- Original Thread' I started back in Dec. 2008- it was interesting to revisit the ideas bounced around here back then- to see how excited members were back then to have someone making them figures, now with shapeways and other artists, there are many more figures being made-out of the original 56 proposed 1/40 scale figures from three lists I have made 8 from the lists- made 5 that werent on the list- There are a few forum members that were pretty active in the development of those earlier pieces that no longer seem to post here, if they come here at all-

Are you still working on the polycotylid plesiosaur? I'd be happy to get involved on that one

I don't think shapeways figures can come close to any of yours. I am always eagerly awaiting your new releases I think its just a cycle.

Thanks Boki, you have always been a big support of my figures here- DTF- actually that Doli figure, shown on a previous page of this thread, was out of scale with the other pieces, so I will start one in either the 1/40 or 1/15 scale that all of my other figures are in so far. I have started a few more marine reptiles that you might find interesting- will post photos of them for your critique- I was asked what tools I use to sculpt these dinos and prehistoric figures- I have many sculpting tools that I have acquired over the years, lots of metal dental tools and picks, metal wax and plaster carving tools, wooden sculpting tools, wire scraping tools, etc.--but to be honest, when sculpting these figures, I only use my fingers and this one tool that I actually made myself from a 5 inch piece of 1/4 inch wooden dowel that I shaped into a sort of rounded blade on one end and stuck a piece of floral wire that I sharpened into the other end- I do 99.99% of all the tooling on these figures with this one tool- other than this one tool, I use texture stamps that I made for myself-

Hey Malcolm - Any chance you might do a 1/40 figure of the largest Ankylosaurid ever found - Tarchia from Mongolia? Here is a great drawing that would make an insanely awesome figure!!

Dan's Dinosaurs will now be carrying Fauna Casts figures. This should provide a more speedy and reliable outlet for those looking to collect my stuff, with much better customer service than I can provide. It will allow me more time to produce new stuff too.

I just got the latest issue of Prehistoric Times. I noticed that in the review section five of my 1/40 pieces were reviewed and Mike for some reason questioned the 1/40 scale of the figures- I can assure you that all five- Allosaurus, Moschops, Mastodon, Moropus, Kronosaurus are all within the size range according to research I did for the pieces. I also found it interesting he says I have been making and selling dinosaur models since before his magazine was in existence- I guess that is sort of true- I was selling 'Mlodoch Castings' dino models back in '87-'88 I used to place ads in 'Toy Shop' if anyone here remembers that toy 'magazine'. There was quite a gap though, where I was doing other artistic things and not really selling anything to collectors. Started back up selling to collectors in 2006.

There was quite a gap though, where I was doing other artistic things and not really selling anything to collectors. Started back up selling to collectors in 2006. I haven't got that far in my issue yet..let's see. My guess his query was about Moschops being so large ? A quick look around showed it as 16' long ! I honestly didn't know that myself..I've seen an old 8' model in a park..and most figures make it pretty small..so perhaps Mike was just as astounded at the size of the animal itself. I would never have thought it was so much bigger than a Mastodon either. I would shoot Mike an email and ask him if that was the case..just see what he was thinking.. You know it would be cool too if he would contact you for an article. You could show off a lot more of your work that way as well.

I did email him and just got a reply- I guess it was the Kronosaurus that he had wondered about, thinking it must be too small to be 1/40- mine is about 9 inches or so in length so I think it is within the right length to be 1/40

New studies suggest it was more like 9 to 10 meters which means your right in the ballpark. Remember how big Liopleurodon use to be?
