One reason some think when these behemonths reached full size nothing could prey on them...so scavenging was the only option...or the predators could grow or hunt in packs..heh heh Can't wait until we can do the same as you and set our pieces up...the huge pieces will def stand out..but the bit players will still be there adding to their larger brethren's overall display...what is it they say...there are no small parts..just small actors..lol that goes doubly true in nature...

I remember that theory...not sure what the whole deal was behind it..but I just couldn't my mind to accept it...maybe if they found a preserved one I'd have to buy into it I guess... lol ;D

Oh my, snap out of it! ;D What a weird picture ;D I think I like my sauropods the way they are, without a trunk ;D

Eew! I sure hope they never discover that trunk-thing being a true possibility!!! Yeah, I always liked that Seismosaurus Boki posted. Even with a small figure like that, Araki still gets in some pretty nice details! And, Malcolm, about all the figures being in the same scale, I've always tried to get all mine in 1/40 scale when I can. It is really cool to sit back and view their size comparisons as they were in real life! Hey, also looking forward to seeing the new Supersaurus pics! Glad you're excited about it too!! ;D

Does he honestly think sauropods had trunks like an elephant?? Even if they did, i'd pull out the trusty hobby knife on any replicas that had them.... ;D

Even if they did, i'd pull out the trusty hobby knife on any replicas that had them.... ;D I don't know who you mean by the 'he' in your post-obviously some he or she out there bought into the theory enough to make drawings and to make a model or have one made for them- I know I certainly don't buy that theory- it looks too strange to me although what do I know-even if the theory was true I doubt that a trunk would look like an elephants just tacked onto a dilpo's head like that-the model in that photo I posted reminds me of Snuffleupagus or whatever that character from Sesame Street was- I posted it to get a laugh or two myself-

Wasn't it bakker who first proposed that theory?

Wasn't it bakker who first proposed that theory? It was in his book. That's where the top illustration came from, I believe. ;D

Wasn't it bakker who first proposed that theory? It was in Dinosaur Heresies, but he never said he thought it to be true. If you check the book, he says "a horrendously heterdox thought, but not a new one. The possibility of trunked dinosaurs has been raised in paleontological journals on and off for half a century. There are all sorts of evolutionary problems generated by this theory....." He goes on to say why this theory isn't really all that plausible.

I have Dinosaur Heresies..but it's been ages since I've read it.... lol Trunks are def not a good look..but then we've been cond to not like them on sauropods..it's part of the mass idea of what they look like... reminds me of the tail dragging issue...there are still artists and people today who make them draggers...

Yep, those are nice. I posted this before, about the time I first joined, in on-line finds. I had tons of sauropod sculptures, to show Boki, but I seem to have deleted most of them. These models are over 3 foot long, I believe. I just have nightmares imagining how fragile those tails and necks would be......

Yeah that model was in an ad for that studio in last issue of PT, nice sculpt- one issue I have with it though-it measures 50 inches it says, and claims to be 1:20 scale - mine is 33 inches at 1:40 scale- sounds like he skimped a bit on size, his should measure 66 inches- as I scaled up accurately from the scale skeleton reconstruction drawing of the same 'Jimbo' skeleton and ended up with the 33 inches- his ad also claims to be the only reconstruction done of supersaurus and the only commercial piece offered- well we will put an end to that claim very soon-lol don't worry about my piece being fragile- I am going to cast it in a polyester, reinforced with fiberglass, which will make it very tough indeed- this casting method will allow me to keep it pretty economical-no need to spend 500.00 to get a nice big supersaurus-

I only brought it up because it looks so much like Malcolm's Super...but there really aren't many poses I guess.
Maybe the pics can help a bit...seems he did spines as well.

I think that the resemblance comes from the fact that we both used the same skeletal drawing as our initial reference- I like the model, just thought the size was a sort of cop out in a way-

I know I used to think that way before experiance taught me better.
