I stand by my initial viewpoint...it looks really nice...and the battle damage , crusty weatherworn face has so much character... if I had the dough I'd have all of these pieces.

Sorry but I think the head looks like a wax candle that has melted- I'll have to admit, Malcolm, that made me laugh! Although, I still think he's cool! ;D

I've seen enough non-melted Rexes. Thank you for the new view sideshow.

The backstory page of the official site actually explains some of the reasoning behind the animal's appearance. Each sculpture actually is intended to tell their own tale.
This Tyrannosaur has endured countless ravages from battle. His face in particular was torn up in a near-fatal encounter with a matriarch. The description even hints at a lingering bone disease that afflicts him.

I am going to start writing back stories for my dinosaur sculpts too- first up will be a T-Rex that has had a very bad encounter with a matriarch hair dryer that will melt his clay head and will explain the red face as well- or the dilophosaurus that had his head chewed up by my sabre toothed dog Ollie- back stories would be a good way to explain away any bad sculpting on my part as well-well the dinosaur has a club foot from a congenital bone disease-or this dinosaur has distorted proportions because its parents were related- too much inbreeding

This tyrannosaur , I think, would be more welcome in a fantasy line...

Rejected? What are you talking about?
Did you even read the story on the official site?

Yep. Didn't he get rejected from a herd or something, so he became a loner and the matriarch attacked him?

Same situation happens to lone wolves in the wild...and I believe we're all familiar with Dinosaurs with many injuries...Big Al ? or Tyrannosaurus in particular..remember Sue ? I don't consider this piece bad sculpting...they already did an awesome looking Rex in the Trike battle piece.. proving they can do one..the differences in this piece were done for artistic reasons. I wouldn't want every Rex looking exactly the same...if they were I would only have one representation of the animal. I applaud the design team who decided to do something different... and wounds can tell stories about an animal just like in the fossil evidence...so can detailed bases on a figure... this Rex lived a in a pretty moist forest enviroment. I don't see any fantasy here ( and I also have a vast Dragon collection ) merely interpretations of fossil evidence and maybe a creative twist...nothing to complain or rail them about. Why do you guys think customizers are always re-doing their figures ? It gives us a way to be more connected and invovled with the piece we hold in our hands...adding a back story by any means even if it's just in subtle hints on a piece is another way to use your imagination and put yourself in the animal's tracks...see through his eyes... I don't see how anyone who loves dinosaurs and figures can't see this relationship..especially you Malcolm since you also create them. :?

There is nothing in the backstory about being separated from a pack or rejected by a matriarch. It says he fought a matriarch, but miraculously survived.
That would certainly make an interesting sculpture.

I have no problem with trying something new, or representing an injured animal-or using your imagination to put a story together for a sculpture- i was just trying to humorously point out the fact that I think the head isn't very successful sculpturally - it doesn't fit the rest of the body sculpt- just saying I think it is poor sculpting on the head-I don't see an animal attacked by another rex and having survived that attack- I see what looks more like scarring from surviving a fire- or even more I just see a melted face, melted flesh- which to me just doesn't look very realistic the way it is sculpted- I get critiqued all of the time for my pieces and I have no problem with hearing input, so I think I have the right to say I think something looks odd or if I feel it is an unsuccessful sculpture- especially when i see the quality of the other pieces offered by this outfit- and the money they charge for their pieces- this is just my own opinion and no one should take it too personally-

Sorry Malcolm...it just felt you were poking fun at my view..so it felt personnal.
Look at birds like condors, vulture's and even turkeys... their faces look a bit like this...and Rex has been theoried to be largely a scavenger.
