Now that summer's here, anyone recommend any good dino fiction? Besides Raptor Red and the Crichton JP books, that is. I read Tyrannosaur Canyon last year, which had a few interesting moments, but most of it was pretty way out there. I read the original I am Legend. It was okay, but when it came to the part where he found the woman, I became bored. I also read Tyrannosaur Canyon, and thought it was a bit dull too. ;D I am reading The Lock, and it is excellent! Do you mean "The Loch" by Steve Alten of Meg fame?

Basically, dude goes through time slip and lives rest of life in cretaceous. The4 book is his uncovered tablets excavated by paleontologists. Easy read, and quite fun. Sort of like HG Wells The Time Machine.

Re-read Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth while in the hospital--it was way more relaxing than watching the bloody news.

Do you mean "The Loch" by Steve Alten of Meg fame? ;D Shout-out to tyrannax and everyone else who recommended some summer reading; I finished "The Loch" by Alten yesterday, which was good, except for the final third, which sucked, still not not as bad as most of his Meg stuff which is atrocious (at least no water-breathing deep, deep sea icthyosaurs!). Still plausible ,but not being Scottish, a big Hmmm? about the accents; anyway not throw-your-book-at -the-wall terrible like "The Ruins" where I wasted several hours of my life on a real POS! Currently reading MAMMOTH by John Varley, So far, so good. Thanks again for all the suggestions, I'll try to hunt them all down eventually! R

Didn't read The Ruins, but I loved the movie.
Currently reading "Evolution: The first four billion years", "Evolution: What the fossils say and why it matters", "Moneyball", and "The Strain."
Highly recommend WWZ and the Zombie Survival Guide (note a WWZ sequel comes this fall). In zombie-land, I liked Brian Keane's "The Rising" as a somewhat different approach to the zombie apocalaypse.

I don't read Koontz anymore. I read three of his books before realizing every story was the same.

Dean Koontz is a blowhard. I know it from experience, I just got curious because the blurbs said it was a good horror novel, but I guess I will avoid it altogether.

Anyone read Crichton's Great Train Robbery? It's probably my favorite Crichton book of all time, matching if not surpassing that certain one that he's most famous for.

I didn't care for Sphere. It should have been named "Ball" in order to increase sales.
I don't think I read Westworld. Was it an earlier piece?
