I also think Sphere was Chrichton's best, although I also enjoyed Travels. Perhaps they are not exactly literature, but they were fun to read.

BARSOOM!!!!! I am rereading (for the umpteenth time) the Martian Tales of Edgar Rice Burroughs. Fantastic series, super creative, especially for having been written from1912 to 1964. 11 total in the series. Highly recommend it, especially in lieu of an upcoming movie!!!!!

Has anyone read "The Flock", by James Robert Smith? About a lost colony of Titanis terror birds living in some remote part of the US? I saw an ad in an old issue of PT and wondered if it was worth looking up.

Has anyone read "The Flock", by James Robert Smith? About a lost colony of Titanis terror birds living in some remote part of the US? I saw an ad in an old issue of PT and wondered if it was worth looking up. Well, I'm able to answer my own question. I was surprised and delighted to find a copy of this book in my own little branch library. It was a great read - I thoroughly recommend it. Sure there's some suspension of disbelief, and the seemingly ubiquitous mult-millionaire (Jurassic Park, Varley's Mammoth), but the story was enough of a page-turner to not quibble over details and scientific errors. Characters were interesting, and the Titanis were very cool and intelligent. Also, the ending was actually satisfactory, which is a rarity in these sorts of books. I wouldn't spend a ton of dough on this, but if you can find it at the 'brer or pick it up cheap, go for it! Two thumbs up.

I just finished "Mothman and Other Curious Encounters" less than a day after receiving it, thanks for the fantastic read Loren! I also started "The Yowie: In Search of Australia's Bigfoot", and have " The Field Guide to Lake Monsters, Sea Serpents and Other Mystery Denizens of the Deep" coming in the mail.

I just got "The Creature: Personal Experiences With Bigfoot" by Jan Klement in the mail, I'm curious, has anyone else read this? It looks very interesting, after hearing about this story for some time.

I'm reading... some book by Jack Horner. Not sure I'll finish it though, it's rather tedious.

I'm reading Moby Dick. Slowly though - for some reason I hardly ever get round to reading fiction. A few long train journeys have helped. It's strange, not many people in this country seem to have read it (EVERYONE in the US has read it...right?). Dan - Jack Horner? Tedious? Never let it be said.

Okay, really it's : "what are you watching right now" sorry if I missed the right thread, but on Scifi (syfy) right now(!) there's a (bad ) movie featuring none other than our old pal Postosuchus!! I've seen it before, it's a classic 2009, or so, horror flick with an incredibly insatiable Posto on the loose in Hawaii (?). Don't miss it! Posto CGI not too bad, actually.
