;D Yah all know it's coming, yah? ;D Anyway, we take a look at the prehistoric mammal collection from the other German company, Schleich
Scheich released a collection of six 1/20 scale prehistoric mammals in addition to their dinosaur line.
The figures are mostly well known species, the standard top five that every line usually has in their mammal collection. The Macrauchenia is the unique one in the group. What make it special is because it’ the first large size figure of the species. Its a beautiful figure.
The five other figures are Smilodon, Mammoth with calf, Glyptodon, Giant Ground Sloth, and Cave Bear.
Most of the figures look as if they step right out of the WWPB show! Perhaps the BBC show inspired Schleich or just capitalizing on it’s popularity, to release their collection of prehistoric mammals.
The figures are very well done and they look very good together. The line is not as extensive as the other German company, Bullyland.
The entire collection
Smilodon: Definitely influenced by the WWPB series. The color and spot patters is very much like scar face, the WWPB smilodon star. The saber-like tooth is a bit exaggerated in this figure, too long and thick. It would be impossible to close the mouth!
The figures body is very much like a bulldog, short and stocky. There is something odd about this cats eyes
Macrauchenia: Another figure that was heavily influenced by WWPB. This figure is big, it is the largest, and the best Macrauchenia toy figure ever made to date.
Macrauchenia joins unitatherium, indricotherium, dinohyouse, as on of those figures that has enjoyed popularity in the early days of prehistoric toy figures ( Marx, MPC, Tootsie, etc. have all released on these guys) mostly in the 60’s and 70’s.
Then just as quickly, dropped out of favor and was rarely ever produced since then. My favorite figure in the collection.
Mammoth: A nice, big, solid figure this mama is! Lots of texture (fur) on this girl. The figure sports a pair of long curving tusk, a prominent hump on its shoulder, and that trademark mammoth dome-shaped head.
There has been a trend in releasing mammoths with calf, and this one also comes with her baby or should I say yearling calf. Other mammoth mother and calf set includes the WS and 2009 CollectA.
Glyptodon: Heavy on armor bumps on this burly guy! The figure looks like it has a grin on it’s face.
I’m not a fan of glptos, so this is my least favorite in the group. Still a nice figure.
Giant Ground Sloth: Schleich has given the standard Giant Ground Sloth a very different and distinct look.
It is nothing like the typical GGS we see. First, it’s in a walking pose and not rearing.
Secondly, the figures head is longer looking with tongue sticking out.
It has long shaggy coat and some nice details on the face. My second favorite
Cave Bear: Not much to say about this guy ;D Generic looking Cave Bear, nothing really special about it. The Bullyland figure is much, much better
So there, another completed collection ;D
Till next time, happy dino-figure hunting! ;D ;D ;D
