SEE THE NEW PICS BELOW.
OK, here are the first in-progress shots of my Columbian Mammoth patterned after the one from the Primeval TV series. A 5" tall figure of Abby Maitland is used for scale.
This really goes beyond mere 'kitbashing'. Sure there was some of that, but as you can see virtually the entire head was 're-sculpted' with Quickplastic putty.
The body platform is of a Chap Mei African Bull elephant; the ears and Tusks are from a Chap Mei "Tusker" Mammoth figure (the one with all the Viking armor moulded on it, so do not freak out, I did not destroy a Chap Mei Mammoth for this custom!!!)
The back of course had to be raised and curved properly. Once sanded and painted it will take its place alongside my collection of Primeval toys. My very first mammal (re)sculpt - and I must say I did pretty good working off the screen grab photos from the Mammoth episode!!

Question for y'all:
Do you think I should remove the added 'wedges' in the trunk and return it to its upright (bellowing) position? Looking at the photos I think that might work a little better. As it is now its a bit long and stiff.
What say you?

Wow, very nice!
I think its neat the way it is, but the bellowing would be cool too!

Thanks! I'm gonna keep track of the responses. Right now I'm really leaning towards removing the 'wedges', but I'm gonna sleep on it.

Trunk modified into upraised (but not fully upraised) pose. Now it looks uncannily like the Bully mammoth (which I have not seen in person) which came about by pure accident. New pics tomorrow after the putty sets ...

So, I was wondering how sturdy the kits are once you have finished modifying them? Strong enough for transport?? One day, you will have to do the physical mods, then mail it to me for a custom paint. Then we could give it to the forum as a diorama prize....

Wow, bucket! I didn't see this guy in the show, but it's certainly a striking figure. Nicely done.

BF, love almost all your stuff. That being said, gotta admit the 'two giant brains' thing looks strange, like the dudes from Mars Attacks!. All the mammoth pix/models I can tell have one modest lump in the middle. I almost feel like you are setting us up for a surprise ;D

^ It's a replica of the Mammoth from Primevil that also had the Dolly Parton-esque head lumps. ;D

I agree its an exaggeration, but I'm reconstructing the creature from the show - not the 'real thing'.

I agree its an exaggeration, but I'm reconstructing the creature from the show - not the 'real thing'. Your pic reminds me to promote John Varley's 'Mammoth' novel again; a great summer read I'm sure most of our members would enjoy. Which reminds me, Michael Swanwick's 'Bones of the Earth' is also worth picking up. Where else will you find a paleontologist as protagonist and Andrewsarchus in a cameo? Time travel stuff is confusing though.
