This is my first re-paint, so be gentle! I received this guy in a batch of dinosaur figures, I hated the color but the sculpt is good so I decided to paint something more attractive on him. So, I went from this purple thing: To this: I hope you guys like him! I sure do

That is actually the waiphoon styracosaurus....Boki gave one to me way back when. It was the first thing he ever sent me. I don't know if they are worth much, more like a better quality chinasaur. i can post pics of my repaint of it if you want
I like the pattern itself, and orange and black work well together. I don't really care for the high gloss on the whole body myself, I usually reserve that for the eyes, and horns and mouths.
The eyes are great, how did you do them??

Dan, CCM and Ty; thanks for the comments! Teton; The gloss is made much worse by the flash, but he is a little shiny. I'm still learning to photograph small figures so they are clear and sharp without a huge shine from the flash. I'd love to see pics of what you did with this guy! I didn't know it was a Waiphoon, I have been trying to find out what make he is but I couldn't find him. I bought him together with a baby Triceratops for 1€! On the eyes: I put a black basecoat on them, followed by several coats of metallic gold. Then I put the pupil and the highlight in, followed by several coats of clear shiny varnish. I use Citadel paints and inks BTW, from my Warhammer days

I think the figure itself is quite nice. Not quite Battat quality, but an admirable fill in...

Beautiful! I love the inks! My only recommendation is to consider using some Testor's dullcoat on him, then picking out the horns/mouth/etc like teton does. Keep this up and you might make teton jealous

Thanks for the comments, guys.
And Kuni, I like the inks too. I learned to use them when I played Warhammer. It's very easy to thin them with a little water and add some PVA, the mix then fills up every nook and cranny. They give a very nice, deep color result. But they are shiny. I was planning to dull him down. But all I have is gloss varnish at the moment. I agree the figure is too shiny.
I'm planning to paint my WS Apatosaurus next. If it turns out nice, I'll post pics of it.

Wow, amazing! I second that... Christ, i'd never be able to do such good work on the Styraco's face in a million of years
