New job!

I've mentioned to one or two people that I have been angling for a great new job, and I guess I can come out and say it now--I have been offered (and am accepting) a position of General Manager of a dinosaur museum. It's called the Eastend T rex Discovery Centre (it's in a town called Eastend, a small town in Southwest Saskatchewan (note: Saskatchewan has far better fossils than Alberta, from a wider range of time, but the funding has not previously been there; I will find a way to change that. Take that Tyrrell.); guess what the star dino will be when the very complete skeleton is finally fully prepped out of the rocks?.

So now I have about three weeks to end my current job, go to my new job, and somehow find a home for myself and my family in a market where there are no homes to buy, nothing to rent, and no lots to develop. This should be fun.

But at least I have a lot of control over EVERYTHING. Which means my first order of business will be exploring further the possibility of T rex having feathers. I think that would be important.

So anyone here that fancies themselves a paleoartist, I would really like for you to get in touch with me. Although I am kidding (trolling?) with that feather thing--I don't agree at all with that in fact--I have had some thoughts and might like to explore some possibilities with people here eventually. Being a not-at-all artist, that's one area I will be picking at other people's brains about whenever I can.

This also means that I am going to be crazy busy over the next few weeks/months, so I may not be as active around here (I say that, but really, at my current workplace, I am pretty sure I will be here a lot as usual. It's only once I've made the move I may be a little distracted).

Congratulations Sbell! That sounds great! Hope the move goes smoothly. I checked out the centre on the web - its the funny place built into the mountainside right?

The Star 'dino' is a plesiosaur right!? If not, it should be (silly overrated rexes ;D)

I'm looking for a new job - perhaps you can put me up when the time comes?

So that's what my office will look like (at dusk). It's usually much brighter during the day.

And in fact, here in Saskatchewan, we have an insane amount of fossil marine reptiles (mosasaurs, elasmosaurs, apparently even ichthyosaurs and maybe pliosaurus, big marine fish, large crocs (Terminonaris)). The Centre doesn't give them enough due (or the mammals either, which is odd, since the Cypress Hills Formation is famous for its Tertiary mammals). I will want to try to change that.

And hey, if you are ever in the neighborhood, let me know. Because it's a quick jaunt from Ireland over to small town Saskatchewan!

It's not creepy, really, just a lot of windows, The building itself is built into a hillside.

I have discovered one really irritating thing--yesterday I packed up my entire collection. It took me 8 years to finally get it all out on display, and one day to take it down. But it's better than leaving it vulnerable to people that are looking at our house.
