I've always felt that articulated dinosaur toys have always lacked a certain amount of competency as far as accuracy goes. Well I thought it would be cool to take a stylized approach, but still keep the proportions and details accurate while having as much articulation as possible. I've been doing these dino action figure concepts for almost a year now- here and there when I find the time. I plan on developing the first one (velociraptor) in to an action figure model kit sometime next year. Here's an example of how it will work: You can check out all of them here: creative-beast.com/?page_id=123&album=3&gallery=34 ;D

I'm going to be a bit of a bastard and say: any chance of some wing feathers on the Velociraptor? As there is evidence for them. As it's an action figure it may not be practical, but I notice that wing feathers are present on one of your other designs.

That is a valid point. I was thinking of giving it a subtle wing texture. I want it to be different enough from the Oviraptor and Microraptor figures.

I would totally get these if they ever came out. I absolutely LOVE jp toys. They have more playability than anything else out there. You are right however, we are in dire need of some more accurate articulated figures. A few questions. Did you say you worked on the JP line? Would these designs you made be in scale with each other if/when they come out?

You are developing a new JP line??

You are developing a new JP line?? In fact, welcome to the forum! And there will be a new JP line next year? I believe you might have given us an exclusive there. It's actually not a big secret. Although it hasn't been talked about much on the net, go no further than your local TRU to see the first releases of the new JP line. Granted they are all repaints, one could assume it's leading to more (much better) figures. He sure is. He's our new hero!

I would love to see these potential figures made.

Very cool! Looks almost like a "cartoon"-- kind of like chaos effect! Will this be out next year with more JP's?

Whoa- you guys are gonna get me in trouble with Hasbro! HAHA
No, these designs are completely my own and have no affiliation with Jurassic Park. I just want to do articulated dino figures and do them awesomely (is that a word?) Anyway, the JP line is great, but I've come to the conclusion that if you want something done right you have to do it yourself, so that's what this is about. These are meant to be action figure model kits with no association with Hasbro or any other company (except my own.)
Also, these would be in scale with 3 3/4" figures" (Star Wars, GI Joe, etc.) with the exception of the very small ones like Microraptor- I'm not sure how I'll do that one yet...

Hey I'm just happy that some new cool sculpts for jp will be coming out next year! So what are the kits of this guy going to be made of? A type of plastic?

I thought that these couldn't be JP figs, as they lack the JP traits, but it's still a revelation that we will be getting new dinosaurs at all. Or at least, you Americans will, and the rest of us will have to sell an unspecified body part (it's becoming a trademark of mine to say that) to have the plastic shipped over.

Nice figure concepts! I'm not an action figure guy, but those look nice!
One comment, though - the hands are positioned incorrectly on a lot of these dinos. You want "clapping" hands that faca each other, not hands with palms facing the knees.
Theropods were clappers not slappers!

Theropods were clappers not slappers! Yeah I can see that a few of them look like 'slappers', but they're more in between clapper and slapper- and a few actually do have the 'clapper' hands. Drawing the hands straight on can look a little flat, so I sometimes go for an in between position. The wrists are articulated so you can make the figure clap or slap! ;D

Talk to Dinonikes - he is producing a custom 1:40 prehistoric critter line just for this forum - the material he uses is soft, yet firm - superior to PVC. In any event, he's been a museum dino-sculptor for a couple of decades, this line is just for the benefit of us unworthy mortals. Young man,if you follow in Dinonikes' footsteps and produce the figures you have pictured, I will personally go to your home and give you three "BANZAIS!"

Very cool designs-
I am sure that you don't need any advice from me- you seem to be a very experienced artist-
I use a urethane called Easy Flo 60 from Polytek- there are better urethanes out there that might be better suited to these articulated toys though- I am not too sure that the urethane I use would hold up to all of the stress these type toys would get- I don't thnik that the material I use is better than PVC- I would love to be able to have my figures cast in PVC, its so relatively indestructible

Some of your pieces especially the Raptor really remind me of Delgado's artwork. His dinosaurs were real animals but still had personnality.
I look forward to seeing your orig figure line and the new JP line...have you mentioned it to anyone on the JPToys forums ? Talk about a wild fire spreading.. ;D

I'd like to see his work. I'm suprised the JP toy news is such a big deal. Here is just one of several sites posting the revival of the new line: www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=58363Just google 'hasbro jurassic park 2009' and see what comes up. True, I don't think it's been mentioned that there will be 'new' figures coming out, but you can't expect Hasbro to differentiate between new and old figures. They want everyone to think that they are all new. This is the only forum I've mentioned this on. And thanks Dinonikes for the info on the casting materials. I've only been molding and casting for little over a year now so I'm still kind of a newbie.

Hi Gojulas, pleased to meet you. Your work looks awesome. Do you have any particular artist to inspire you for your designs? They do look a littlebit like Ricardo Delgado's artwork, but since you don't know him, I guess it's just a coincidence. I think Blade-of-the-moon was talking about RICARDO DELGADO who made a series of comic books titles "AGE OF REPTILES". If you don't know these comics, you totally should. I love them. DELGADO seems to be hugely influenced by artist WILLIAM STOUT, also. Here's some artwork from DELGADO's "AGE OF REPTILES": pixhost.ws/avaxhome/ee/fd/000bfdee_medium.jpegblobguy.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/capture1.jpgwww.dinopixel.com/aor1.jpgReally, the comics are awesome in terms of storytelling. Not a word, not a single letter. Only images and atmospheres and movement, and believeme, each dino has it's own personality without being humanized at all. Oh, DELGADO also worked on JP3 movie drawing dinos conceptual art. Btw, other thing, when you worked on the Hasbro JP line, what did you do? Did you design the figures, sculpted them...? And what line was that, the first?
