You... You're the one who designed McFarlane Dragons???! If so, you ROCK! Anywya, i'm looking forward to see your dinosaur figures finished... Hope they'll arrive in Italy too I was the initial designer for the McFarlane Dragons, but there were several other designers once the line got going. I worked on series 1, 2 and 6. I changed over to the sculpting department while series 2 was being sculpted. Designing for series six was kind of a fluke since I was was a full time sculptor by that point. And the dino figures are not going to be distributed like toys- they are going to be sold as kits through my website. I only have one planned for next year- sort of a test run. How I move forward with the figures from there depends on how the first one sells.

You basically create the Scavenger Dragon, though; he's here at my desk and it's probably one of my favorite of all the McFarlane's Drakes

Ah, so you did everything on piece ? It was really one of the more spectacular Dragons...and for a 6" figure as well ! It could have easily been a boxset with an expanded base... I have him in a 3 way fight with the 2 headed dragon and the flying Fire Clan ( removable flame ) over another dragon carcass. Was the Scavenger designed as a beast that " scavenges " for food or was it looking for other things ? The partial building base didn't really give much to work with but the vulture like look made me think food was it's concern.

The partial building base didn't really give much to work with but the vulture like look made me think food was it's concern. I was going for a vulture look, yes. It actually was sculpted at double the size (as were most of the dragons) so it could have made a nice box set. Hi Gojulas, pleased to meet you. Your work looks awesome. Do you have any particular artist to inspire you for your designs? They do look a littlebit like Ricardo Delgado's artwork, but since you don't know him, I guess it's just a coincidence. I think Blade-of-the-moon was talking about RICARDO DELGADO who made a series of comic books titles "AGE OF REPTILES". If you don't know these comics, you totally should. I love them. DELGADO seems to be hugely influenced by artist WILLIAM STOUT, also. Here's some artwork from DELGADO's "AGE OF REPTILES": pixhost.ws/avaxhome/ee/fd/000bfdee_medium.jpegblobguy.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/capture1.jpgwww.dinopixel.com/aor1.jpgReally, the comics are awesome in terms of storytelling. Not a word, not a single letter. Only images and atmospheres and movement, and believeme, each dino has it's own personality without being humanized at all. Oh, DELGADO also worked on JP3 movie drawing dinos conceptual art. Btw, other thing, when you worked on the Hasbro JP line, what did you do? Did you design the figures, sculpted them...? And what line was that, the first? Wow Delgado's art looks sweet! I have to get my hands on those books. ;D As for the JP line, the figures I worked on I sculpted for the 2010 line.

Ah, the legendary 2-ups...Mcfarlane could have just released those a little further apart and we would have bought them just as well... and imagine..well, you don't have to..but the DETAIL...it would have superior I'm sure. I've heard most if not all of those 2ups are in Todd's private collection, either at home, around the office or at one of the stores.

I wouldn't know about that, but there were a lot of painted 2-ups at the NJ office for display. Not sure what ever happened to them. I really wanted to snag the full size Scavenger.

I suppose if you have any connections there still, you could enquire maybe ?

Not likely. They've laid off almost everyone I knew there. They're working with a skeleton crew these days. It's a shame. I think they'll pull out of it eventually, but they've had some hard times in the past year. I'm glad I left when I did.

That's is a shame...I'd hate not knowing where a piece I did ended up.
The end of dragons was mostly my end of being on the forums...though Todd's choice to go for only licensed properties saved the company when so many others fell..that just made lose what remaining interest I had left. I liked the orig stuff...even the spawn lines became less impressive and repetitive. The Christmas horror line was a big seller..at least Mrs.Claus was..lol We never did figure out why Todd didn't make a Horror VIxens line or something...talk about super demand.

I have to say-- Those are some of the COOLEST colorations on dinosaur figures I've seen! Can't wait for a real figure of that crylophosaur...

Gojulas: Just one comment about the Triceratops and the Chasmosaurus: The heads as pictured on your site are much too small for the bodies. The head of an adult Triceratops was about one-third the length of the body; In the case of Chasmosaurus, because of the extra-long frill, the proportions were even longer vis-a-vis the body length. As an example: The biggest Triceratops skull ever found is in the BYU Science Museum basement; its almost 10 feet long - the estimate for the body length is 30 feet. Here is an excellent illustration (sculpt by Keith Strasser):

I'll have to make some adjustments to the proportions when I sculpt these.

Here's a few new ones I recently finished: Acrocanthosaurus Diplodocus Saichania Updated Scale Chart And in addition to the action figure concepts, I also have a new drawing of Therizinosaurus: That's all. ;D

Gorgeous of course. I would love an articulated Diplodocus like that.
One thing...shouldn't Therizinosaurus have feathers...?

Excellent stuff man! That Saichania looks amazing! I'd pay anything for it! Also a word of advice, the first pedal digit on therizinosaurus should be somewhat longer, almost touching the ground. Theris had weird 4 ground-touching-toed feet.

Looks real cool. I would love to have an articulated sauropod like that. If/when they are produced will they be in scale like they are on that chart or would the smaller guys be bigger?
Horridus: Therizinosaurs, especially the huge ones may not have been covered in feathers because of their size despite their feathered relatives. If anything I'd give them feathers on the arms and head for display only. Seems he did that though in his drawing anyway. They kinda look like loose scales to a certain degree. Its all speculation really though so who knows.

If anything I'd give them feathers on the arms and head for display only. This is true. I was just being ultra-pedantic about a great drawing (hence the following bit about self-flagellation - I know when I'm being a bit of a knob, most of the time). Luis Rey only gave them display feathers. STILL, this very nice drawing aside, it seems that given that they were maniraptorans feathers would have been present somewhere. But I'm really not complaining about the drawing.

Theris had weird 4 ground-touching-toed feet. Interesting. I have to admit, therizinosaurus reference isn't always easy to come by nor is it usually consistent. In a way, I think that's what makes them so intriguing. Dinobot, could you post an example of what you're referring to? Thanks. And to answer Griffin's question- the chart represents the actual intended size when/if I actually get around to sculpting these. However I may have to take some liberties with the microraptor since it's so tiny, but I'll worry about that later. And as for the feathers issue- I like drawings scales, and I wanted to make some of the scales look like transitions between scales and feathers, but I was more interested in a scaly look than a feathered look.
