^^ Disagree, I really like this one. Looks William Stout-esque to me.

I like what he did with it a lot. The original paintjob on that particular model always bugged me to a high degree. That's right, I criticized a Battat. He made it less sloppy looking and more believable with regards to the actual colors he used.

I like the original paint job better. I understand that Kevin's method exposes all the nooks and crannies for all to see ... but this one just doesn't look lifelike to me.
The color on this one is too flat and drab. It needs some more - COLOR. Most of it almost looks B & W.
(OTOH I have posted earlier today that his Liliensternus is absolutely awesome.)

dinosaurcollector.wordpress.com/2008/02/26/maiasaura-battat/It has a random neon orange line going down the back. The brown and blue are more or less the same darkness which hurts my eyes. I like it when the ventral and dorsal regions are at least different shades. In addition to all of this the overall quality of the paintjob I think is kind of sloppy. I know I know dinosaurs could have been any color but given the choice between the crayola starter box inspired original and what Kev put together I am gonna side with Kev. "Oh Lord. Another Battat ruined" If you seriously don't like the work he put into it that's one thing. Its your opinion and you have every right to voice it I suppose but its another just to criticize it because its a "rare and valuable" figure. Its his figure. Painting models is his what he likes to do. Nothing wrong with what he did in my eyes whether its a Battat or a chinasaur. Reminds me of the people who used to go crazy whenever kids would rip the tags off their beanie babies.

OK, I guess it simply boils down to this: I happen to like more brightly colored dinosaurs in general. Hence I am not fond of this repaint. I accept that you have a different opinion.

I trust me so do I just take a look at some of my illustrations. I help myself to artistic license all the time when it comes to loud color. Just in the case of some of the battats...I'm not a fan. I just personally can't imagine the real animals like that. Again, my personal opinion. Just didn't want you to think I believe every single species of dinosaur should be shades of gray.

Well, it is not really that drac. The main body itself, the base coat is a deep olive like color ( mushroom ), The underbelly is a cream ( parchment ), the head is a med green ( light moss ), overlaid with an even lighter, brighter green ( wedgewood green ), a sienna brown on the back "ridge" ( bambi brown ), crocus yellow for the crest, and teddy bear brown on the bill and claws. The eyes are pumpkin orange, with black pupils and black in the nostrils. The whole thing is sealed with flat clear spray, and semi-gloss in the bill and claws. High gloss in the eyes and nostrils. It took a day and a half. You know well that color varies between indoor, outdoor and such. Also various screens will show better than others. I am just saying, it is not really drab depending on the light, and that is a nice effect, also very realistic for a big reptile I think. I used far less color on the liliensternus--mostly brown, cream, and gray. I only wonder, because I am particularly happy with this one. You'll notice, most of these paint shemes were also used extensively on my large trike, which I seem to recall your liking. It almost seems any work done modifying a BATTAT figure would.....displease you?

I even like the TRex paint scheme, which even I have to admit is a bit , well .. bizarre. But in a cool way. Interesting you mention the modifying - 3 years ago I had 2 Battat Diplos, and I almost decided to modify one of them into a walking pose - but then I decided it was too much trouble and sold it. For a heckuva lot less than they go for now! I wish I had done that modification. Darn!

Whats the point of this thread if the pics of the Re-paint are not visible.

Whats the point of this thread if the pics of the Re-paint are not visible. Kevin pulled them down - he took a bit of a bashing over his repainted Battats. It got me thinking - hence the "Battat Sanctity" thread I started.

He really should put them back up. I especially liked the maia.

I agree. Kevin, please put the photos back up. I like seeing how everyone paints their figures - the variety of creative minds in the forum is amazing.

Oh ok, yeah put the pics back or at least delete the thread, we don't want new members or guests searching this forum and being confused over invisible re-paints. Also i have noticed some of the original re-paint threads have no pics either, If the photo's have been deleted then shouldn't the thread be deleted?

The older threads are missing pics because I reach my free limit on photobucket, and have to delete stuff in order to put new ones up. I have explained this many times, I cannot delete threads myself, so there are a few "dead" threads laying around.......
