Zallinger painted the "Age Of Reptiles" back in the fortys. But when I saw it back in the fiftys, it made me fall in love with prehistoric life. This is the beginning for me. Carboniferous-Devonian

The Allosaurus in the background has a HUGE gut! It looks like a therizinosaur! Never noticed that before...the mural's a masterpiece obviously, even if the outdated aspects can be good for a giggle.

They all have pretty remarkable guts, I'd say.

Back in the fifties Life Magazine released a fold out of the Zallinger, Age Of Reptiles Mural. In 1957 Marx toys released it first Prehistoric Times playset. The figures except for the Neanderthal man were all based on the Age Of Reptiles Mural. I remember playing in the basement at an older friends house and coming across an old Marx Prehistoric Times playset. Now I had one at home, but this one had a vacuum form terrain. You could put toy ferns in to the holes in it, but it seemed much to fragile to play on. But it did make a colorful diorama. This particular piece is unusal in that it has no cracks.

On Christmas 1959 I got my first Marx Dinosaur Playset. My parents had it out of the box and set up, when I got up that morning. Over the years I collected Baseball Cards, had quite a few of the fifty's and sixties. I had like Mickey Mantle etc. I also had a comic book collection. I started getting DC comics in the fifties and I had the first issues and early editions of several of the Marvel comic super heros. But my Mom gave them to my younger cousin. The only thing I've got from my childhood is my dinosaurs and some records. Here is the box from my first Dinosaur play set.
