Oh, that is clever. Did he do some consultation with you?

Oh, that is clever. Did he do some consultation with you? Nope, he sculpted this on his own accord.

Tokugawa is a genius. I disagree with his no-cheek ceratopsians and "lips Giganotosaurus", but his work is almost on a par with Shinzens. He, Sinzen and Araki (the "Dean" of Japanese paleosculptors) are the 3 best Japan has to offer - their work is so hard to get here (except as vinyl pieces by X-Plus and Sega)
When I cutomized his Triceratops (SEGA vinyl 1/20 scale) into my Torosaurus (see my website), I emailed him a photo and his reply was complementary - though the English was a bit mangled.
You know him well enough to get this as a gift? I am GREEN with envy!!!!!

I love the fact that he did Cotylorhynchus. There is one in the AMNH museum in NY and I always wondered why I never see more of this truly weird looking animal.
I like his work but like bucket said I finid the cheekless ceratopsians a little weird. The rex's mouth looks odd to me also. But overall he seems to be really skilled at what he does.
You are really lucky to have gotten that sculpture. Congrats.

Apologies for reviving an almost two-year-old thread, but I just wanted to register my profound envy. ;D Hirokazu Tokugawa has just followed my blog, of all craziness.* I remembered that he is a palaeo artist of renown, but to my shame, I'd forgotten in what precise category and did a little Google search, and was reminded that he is of course the sculptor of the Sega vinyls and some of the Favorites too (besides all his other stunning museum pieces). I was also led to this old thread. So yes, aren't you a lucky plesiosaur to own this, Dr. Adam. ;D * I've been having a spate of nerd moments of late, it is a most surreal experience...
