Just finished my second 1/40th scale sculpt, a rhamphorhynchus: I think it turned out better than than my Mononykus.

Wow thats really great. I think its the better of the two as well. I'd love to have a little 1:40 ramph like that. Wish they actually made them.

That's really nice! Congratulations are in order for realising it so well at such a small scale. I agree, even better than the Mononykus.

What did you use to make these?

I have started using Cernit, which is a polyclay I discovered when I was reading the blog of the women who did some of the recent Safari sculpts. It has sort of re-invigorated my interest in sculpting figures; I was frustrated by the limitations of other materials at very small sizes.
I have used a number of polyclays, and it seems to be the strongest and most flexible, even at very small size. I can even carve it with a razor after curing it - and I added multiple layers which allows me to add details. The rhamphy didn't even need a armature - and I can toss it around without breaking it.
I think my next figure is going to be a 1/40th Leaellynasaurus.

Very nice. I like the detail in the wing membranes - creates avery life-like figure.
