This painting rocks!
Schleich MUST do models with colors and pattern like this!
Amazing work Kevin!

Very skillful work-- but IMO, it could be better. The green, the tan, and the dark brown all work very well together, but all those little spots on the side make the rest seem plain Still wonderful paintwork though... I'd never have the patience to do all those little spots

Kevin - One thing that you need to do is to paint the mouth line. It just doesn't look right. There should be a thin line more of a mouthy fleshy color otherwise it just doesn't look right.
Also - I would recommend a tiny white DOT in the center of each eyeball - representing the reflection of light from the eye.
I don't think it will detract from the otherwise STUNNING paint job!!!

Al, once I am satisfied that this is done - which I am, I think - I will seal it, and paint the eye with a high gloss clear coat. That will reflect the room light, and bring the eyes to life. I agree the mouth line looks odd, but the beak is totally closed in the sculpt, so I don't see flesh working, and also, the tone of it is too light, and would not show up well on the body color, and look too light at the end, in the dark tan. I am thinking about it, but don't know yet. I will just let it sit a while, there is no rush.
As for the darker brown looking too plain, Cordy, I originally planned some pattern in it too, like a sea turtle type of marking only lighter brown, but I don't think it is needed. I am afraid it might make the whole piece look too busy. I decided when starting, to not go with a scheme that would have been more likely for a big open water predator--your tiger shark, or even a white shark sort of thing. I decided instead to try to make the toy itself as interesting as I could, more as an art project. I can always add more, but if patterns in the brown end up not working, changing it would mean a total redo. Less is more...?Like I said, I will let it sit through the week, see how I feel about it.
The brown on it is a fun little color really, it is a bottle called Mississippi Mud, a nice smooth chocolate brown. In the sun, it seems to have a slight purple-ish hue for some reason, depending on what base it is painted over. I bought it last month, and am almost out already...
I am glad you guys like. When doing the rarer pieces, like this and the Battats, I feel a little pressure to get it "right". Normally I just paint for me and Susan, but like here, I am eager to please the forum members too, so I appreciate your happiness with this. ;D

Beautiful work. I think the colors - including the green - look great! especially like the speckling and how you mixed up the colors on the tips of the fins and paddles.
Nice work, its fun to see such work.

Great make-up around the eye! How about the Hans - gang? They look like dealers ;D. DonĀ“t they have better things to do than hanging around under a Shonisaurus - statue? ;D

Hey, I like this, Kevin! Nice detailing!! I especially love all the speckling. I see you left off the speckling on the back flippers. I like them looking a little different, but to me, they almost look as if you forgot to put some on. Maybe you could just put a little on those back ones. Then, I think, they would help make the whole piece a bit more symmetric, yet still different from the front ones. Just a thought. ;D I really do like all the pattern work you've created for this. But, although I also like the pattern around the eye, I think the bright green with the white highlighted spots look a little like "The Green Hornet" mask with glitter, hehe. I think a nice grey-blue color would look cool and look great with the browns. Again, just my opinion. I also agree with Al. The mouth line on the beak needs some darker shadow. Maybe a darker grey, but not black. It is just a shadow in the crease after all. So, it could be a grey tone. Overall, very impressive work again! Oh, I forgot, you know me, I'd like some kind of sheen on him instead of the flat matte. But, you did say you haven't sealed him yet. So, you don't have to go glossy, maybe just a nice satin. ;D

I will echo the others' comments on having some shading or even a simple line to help separate the upper and lower jaws, as it does look a little beaky otherwise. It's a magnificent job, though.

Nice Shoni ;D Yo have so much patience to do all of those spots ;D Oh and yes, a darker line on the mouth would greatly enhance the overall look. Very impressive work Kevin!
