Hi, I've been collecting dinosaurs for a couple of years now. I've recently become interested in making custom paint jobs for some of my figures. I want to repaint the Papo Trike in a better colour scheme and maybe find a way to fill in/get rid of those ugly cracks in it's horns. Does anyone have any idea of how to do this? Also, what's the best way to get ideas for good colour schemes? I've been browsing through google images and looking through books, but what do you guys recommend? Finally, does anyone have any general advice for painting dinosaurs for a beginner? (like me) ~Thanks so much!

You could probably use putty to fill in the cracks.

Yeah, I use epoxy putty but model putty like Green Stuff or White Stuff could be used but they don't adhere as well and could flake off. As far as color schemes, I find a stout dose of absinthe and spinning in circles does wonders for your imagination!!?? ;D ;D yee ha!! Seriously, if you are finding pictures then it's just a matter of trial and error, lots of error

Yes, I use Magic Sculpt, it has a long working time of a few hours so you can take your time. I also use a cheaper 10 minute stuff for claws, spikes and anything where I don't care if it hardens quickly. I bought the Magic Sculpt in the 5lb size for under $30USD. I had to laugh though at the ehow site he says T. rex is a popular model to paint and they show what looks like an Allosaurus I have a book from Kalmbach called "Building and Painting Models Dinosaurs" by Ray Rimell which is pretty good but it's out of print and seems to command a premium price now a days starting at a low of $60USD!! Probably shouldn't have mentioned it! "The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Dinosaurs" by Dougal Dixon has a lot of good ideas also for paint schemes. Published in 2006.

I would say the best book is the world encyclopedia of dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures by dougal dixon It only has tetrapods though. Its the only book of more recent times that really never gets old.
