I have in fact been referring to them as 'Brontosaurus' in conversation with him, since he prefers it. (I should have been a diplomat, huh? ;D Don't forget to never mention feathers. Ever. ;D OK now I'm just taking cheap shots. But I'm with Dave Hone on the "Brontosaurus" issue. dinobase.gly.bris.ac.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=2859

Well, for my part, I love the name Apatosaurus, not only on scientific grounds, but because it just sounds more phonetically beautiful to me. ;D But it doesn't rankle me to hear/see Brontosaurus mentioned. I'm also inclined to agree with Mike Keesey in that link you posted (but you probably foresaw that ;D). *Awaits thread hurtling off track* ;D ;D

;D No matter how hard people try they will never get rid of the name Brontosaurus. That's what people have called it for over a century. And there not going to ever let anyone change it. Yes, Bully For Brontosaurus!

What if it's a species other than Apatosaurus excelsus? That was the only animal ever called "Brontosaurus" - don't tar the other species with the same brush

Introducing Aprontosaurus pengiI only meant to do a relatively quick sketch, but enjoyed it rather too well. The original is fairly small: 24 x 10.6 cm.

What...the...HELL? Re Apatosaurus and "Brontosaurus": the number of people who think that "Brontosaurus" came first and that Apatosaurus is the 'new' alien name...I dunno

Or are you just being mean? Or perhaps you were voicing the Allosaurus? ;D And stop being such a stirrer, you. ;D That's great, Himmapaan ;D I laughed - really cool design on the bike type contraption! I can only take the tiniest fraction of credit for the steam-engine-type-thing. It was borrowed almost directly from French animator Michel Ocelot's Les Trois Inventeurs, and I only modified a few things. I'm glad you laughed though, thank you. ;D

Many of your drawings are hilarious Himmapaan, as is this! I am so grateful, though, that you sprinkle in some legit sketches, because your art is so beautiful, I sometimes react, thinking "WHAT, why did he take that beautiful dinosaur and stick a dainty cup of tea in his claws!!" ;D I mean that generously and warmly. Hopefully that comes across right. These sketches make me chuckle, whereas some of your more serious pieces make me just pause in awe and stunned reverence. Personally, I would just LOVE to see you take time some day and draw/paint a serious, dinosaur scene/landscape, complete with prehistoric plants, etc (please, please ). It would be so spectacular! That said, I'm more than happy to gawk or chuckle at whatever you decide to send our way! HEY, with this post...I have become a FULL MEMBER!

I'm always just so amazed at the art you do! Even the last one, a relatively quick sketch is so great. What else to say I do love the humorous ones the best.

Paleofreak, I'm glad you like it; thank you! ;D Boki, many of these are much smaller than people pobably expect. I post larger sized images to compensate for not being able to look closely at the work as one might an original, because much of the detail is rather compromised on screen and by the resizing itself. And thank you Harriet and Mr Totoro-Curt. ;D I would love to do such a thing someday, were time and opportunity ever to present themselves. It's just that there are so many wonderful artists creating such spectacular works of that nature already that I don't feel especially urged towards it so soon. Whereas my storyteller's nature is allowed freer reign with these silly things. I also think that, for all that we collect toy dinosaurs, we can get terribly serious on this forum. I expect if I drew them in a much more obviously cartoony manner, there would be less of an incongruous sort of feeling to see a teacup in a dinosaur's claws (though there hasn't been one yet! There's been one offfering tea, but not yet one holding a cup ;D), so I do understand what you mean. ;D But I suppose it allows me to reconcile a genuine concern for accuracy with something entirely lighthearted. Also, as you might have seen from the 'What Dinosaurs are You?' thread, I have set myself something of a task to draw the saurian 'portraits' of the members, so there have been more opportunities for the fun things than serious ones. ;D

I must have been writing my last reply as you commented. I'm glad you enjoy the humorous ones, thank you! ;D The 'Aprontosaurus' wasn't as quick as I had intended. I did originally mean to do a very quick sketch, but ended up elaborating it further as I enjoyed it so. ;D

Honestly...I didn't get it. I AM an idiot, after all. You're not an idiot! But it wouldn't be the same if I explained it; it would blunt the joke quite! Not that it was great to begin with, but look, some people laughed! ;D The image was what arose in my mind and I was unable to resist setting it down. Look at the name: 'Aprontosaurus'. It's there. ;D
