Is it 'pronto' as in speedy? It must be, right? "A-pronto-saurus." I was blinded by the preposterous but quite brilliant steampunk contraption in the picture.

Honestly...I didn't get it. I AM an idiot, after all. You're not an idiot! But it wouldn't be the same if I explained it; it would blunt the joke quite! Not that it was great to begin with, but look, some people laughed! ;D The image was what arose in my mind and I was unable to resist setting it down. Look at the name: 'Aprontosaurus'. It's there. ;D Why would he be answering the phone in Italy? ;D

Why would he be answering the phone in Italy? ;D ;D That's one use of the word. ;D Is it 'pronto' as in speedy? It must be, right? "A-pronto-saurus." I was blinded by the preposterous but quite brilliant steampunk contraption in the picture. Yes, it is. ;D As I say, it was what arose in my mind when I squished 'Apatosaurus' and 'Brontosaurus' together to form 'Aprontosaurus'; and is probably the most effective visual play on the pun. I could have had the dinosaur answering a telephone, but I think that reference would be lost on most people. That would be equally true if it were serving dinner. ;D I could also have just had it runing very fast, but there's no humour in that. Steam-powered it had to be. I could explain my choice of steam as opposed to say, a jet engine, but that's probably unnecessary... ;D

This is great stuff. Ink and watercolor are the two mediums I have the most trouble with, but you're a natural, man. Props X 100

On the remote chance that anyone might be interested... Prints of An Airing ( posted on page 5) are available for purchase from dA here. There are other things like postcards, mugs, etc too. I ordered a few things to see what they look like. Postcard: 8x10 inches matte photo print: The 8x10 photo print above is closer in size to the original drawing in my sketchbook, in case that is of interest: And a picture of a 16x20 photo print too, just to give an idea. I recommend the photo prints not only because they are cheaper, but because my original didn't match dA's print ratio, I've had to allow margins for the prints to avoid any part of the drawing being cut off . These are significantly narrower in the photo prints than in the fine art ones. The latter will have very wide margins top and bottom, much like in the postcard above. In any case, the prints are of exceptional quality. I found myself trying to brush away two specks of dust which turned out to have been on my original drawing and which I failed to notice at the time of submitting it. They're very small though and shouldn't spoil anything! Also available are the Citipati and my Diplodocus 'portrait' (again, the photo print for the latter is best, which leaves the drawing intact with small margins. I couldn't allow any margins on this for the fine art print version at all, so the drawing does get awkwardly cropped. The Citipati is absolutely fine for any version though . I don't make any money from these. This is just in case anyone is interested. The artist's percentage is miniscule. I don't remember the precise figure, but roughly speaking, half a dozen 8x10 print sales won't even make the cost of a CollectA Olorotitan figure. ;D

Those turned out great! You're really such an incredible artist. I've always been very curious about the quality of DA's print system, I'm pleasantly surprised to hear a positive review.

Thank you both so much. Seijun, I do understand about the line, and especially when the thing appears out of context and in print form, it just looks unsightly. I personally don't mind it, as the drawing is part of my sketchbook, like a slice from an artist's journal. I like the presence of the sketchbook's gutter as a reminder of that. That said though, if there is enough demand for it, I might seek the assistance of a friend who would be able to do a superior job than I ever could at removing the gutter line in Photoshop (or is there a volunteer? ;D), and resubmit that version as a print?

Makes me glad to have a Niroot Puttapipat original! Hurrah! Take that! And I can say they are well worth a purchase even as prints. The online version doesn't do any piece justice.

And that original will be worth a deal one day, you know. ;D Why, Salman Rushdie was even interested in buying the original illustration I did for the jacket of his latest book... *Unusually vile and thoroughly vulgar bit of trumpet blowing* ;D It would be cool to have a no-line version. I would like to buy this as a large poster and I'm afraid the line would look very out of place at such a large scale. I shall see to it then, in that case. Please give me a while, I've rather many things going on at the moment...

Did he buy it? Or is this something going on right now? This is really exciting!

He did express an interest in buying it earlier this year, though I haven't heard more about it since -- so I don't know what may happen yet. It may come to nothing. ;D I posted the final jacket and the original illustration on dA (although both suffer a little from the view restrictions, and the effect of the gold is of course lost in the scans). There are also various links there, if you're interested. And thank you, Mnemosaurus.

Hope you don't mind me asking, but how's Pilty's Apatosaurus (Brontosaurus ;D) coming on? Funny you should ask! Coincidentally enough, I managed to snatch a few hours this evening to continue it. I hadn't planned on showing this stage, but since you enquired... The view on screen is a little larger than the original. The fine lines still appear blurred, however. I had a number of diplodocid figures in front of me, but David Krentz's influence still became most particularly evident. How could I help it? ;D Apart from having such a profound admiration for him, his Antediluvian Apatosaurus is the best model of this animal there is.

Indeed. I think it's a shame that Piltdow...'Pilty' didn't want a row of spines, as that would really have been the icing on the cake. Ah well. At least he didn't get you to draw some chimeratastic anachronism...in a swamp ;D

At least he didn't get you to draw some chimeratastic anachronism...in a swamp ;D I'm sure he never would have wanted such a thing at any rate. Truth be told, I'm not so happy with my efforts on this one. It feels... curiously dull. I think I was too conscious of doing something rather 'serious' and approached it too tentatively and tensely. The 'Aprontosaurus' is far more spirited and expressive by comparison, even when you ignore all the other silly things. The same goes for many of the other 'portraits'. It's not because of the slight anthropomorphism in them, simply that I felt no pressure and had more confidence when doing them.

Oh ... I haven't been here for too long ... WONDERFUL 'Luka' cover art - is that an otter on the left below the dog? I hope so ;D. Great work, Niroot - Salman should buy it! I'm curious about the print quality of the beautiful 'Citipati' ..... I might have to find out ..... also looking forward to the non-line 'Airing' version. I had a number of diplodocid figures in front of me, but David Krentz's influence still became most particularly evident. How could I help it? ;D Apart from having such a profound admiration for him, his Antediluvian Apatosaurus is the best model of this animal there is. Totally agree (and it's a good influence of course).
