Posts like these are what make me think that everyone here believes there is little more to Papo sculpts than detailed scales. That Saltosaurus is detailed, but lacks most of the muscle tone, attention to muscle anatomy (some would say too much), and fluid, lifelike poses of Papo's best. Like the Allosaur, Pachyrhinosaur, Tyrannosaur, etc. Well, if Schleich stuck with their stock photo for their rendition of Saltasaurus, it wouldn't have been so bad. Yes, I am fairly well-versed with Papo's dinosaur products, but the truth is its a relatively small collection, especially for collectors. I already have them all, and I would like to complement my line with similar dinosaurs-they don't have to be 100% faithful to the Papo dinosaurs in terms of fluidity, sculpts and scutes, but as long as they capture some of the essence of the Papo models...that is good. Have you seen the Schleich Brachio? If Papo made a Brachio, I would imagine that it would be similar. You can probably mistake the Schleich Brachio for a Papo product, unless you are micro-analyzing it! lol (the fluidity level is on par with Papo Triceratops, and the scute level is higher than Papo Nessie and the musculature level is more or less on par with Papo Stegosaurus) And apparently, Schleich's Para is on par with the Papo Para.

Oh, here is the thread. I've just realised it was started by you, in fact, haha. ;D Hah, funny how at the end the main star again was the Schleich Apatosaurus. ;D Truly, I think that and one fits really good on a "Papoish" collection, it's very late 80's-early 90's and elephantine enough to be quite close to how it would have look on a JP film. The Shcleich Brachio too. Won't look bad besides JP designs.

Probably not Papo-ish at all, but does anyone have good pics of the WS "Dinosaurs of China/Mamenchisaurus"?? The paint-job reminds me of the DR Brontosaurus, for some reason or another.... I can't tell what its head looks like, though... Mamenchisaurus was vaguely "reviewed" on the Dinosaur Toy Blog...

No, i wouldn't consider it papo-ish either: ...especially not the head! Safari Ltd. have improved the quality of their figures and paint applications a lot in the recent years but this one was from 1993.

Look at those feet too...oh dear....(always the feet with me). I'd rather take the Invicta Mamenchisaurus over this one; the only element of it more retro is the too-upright neck (and hey, that looks kinda cool in a 1970s-Bakker type way).

To me the best Sauropod to go along with the Papos is the Tamiya Brachiosaurus. It's pretty jurassicparky . Of course you'd need some painting talent to make it a perfect fit.

The Tamiya Brachiosaurus really is quite magnificent. Mine arrived a little while ago. I'm only sorry that I won't be able to assemble it any time soon because there is simply no room for it.

My Papo Oviraptor is experiencing falling-on-the-face syndrome (well, falling on its side)... ...I don't understand why, it has a tripod stance (with the egg)...what gives? This is lame!

It's actually a very elegant, and impressive piece based on 1993 standards, and the pose is remarkable. They should seriously consider reissuing the same exact figure with more detailing (fix up the feet, perhaps) and better paint application for 2012! What's up with the masked luchador look!

The Tamiya brachio is great, and very Papo-ish: wonderful presence, fantastic detail, and a few inaccuracies--neck too verticle, wrong feet--perfect Papo !!

Well...I don't know how to verify, but the stated scale for the Prehistoric Creatures pack is 1/35. The archeopterix sp? is the same as the one in the brachio kit. The Rex and Para are juvies to go with the adult's kits. The croc..who knows? And the oviraptor and other little one seem about right too.

The raptors are 1/35 too?
Are they velociraptor mongoliensis?

They are stated as 1/35. You do get two of them with the trike, too, so you'd have a total of eight. They are not any larger than the 1/35 scale figure. They come to just over waist high to him. Still seems a tad large, but probably doable.

I'm very envious that you have the complete Tamiya series, Stormnl. ;D I'm missing the Triceratops, T.rex and Parasaurolophus. I covet the last most of all (no surprises there ;D).
