The Allo has the look of the smaller Running Allosaurus ( third row, 2nd from the right in the 2nd catalog image, page 1 ) . Maybe it's a modified version..they cast one for individual sale , then modified one and cast it for Bara kit ? Asian model makers are know for doing that in some cases. Mike might have images of these...but a Kaiyodo article should be suggested to him. I can't recall a whole article on them in the past..but then that a LOT of back issues to go through. Didn't Horizon or some other company also produce a Barosaurus VS Allo diorama ?

I suppose there's only so many times I can post a sigh or a frown, so I shall refrain... But they are so depressingly beautiful. Do you know if there is any way I might at least get hold of a catalogue, so I can just salivate over that, if nothing else? I have 2 catalogues that I'll post in due course. Not willing to part with them though!

I guess you're right, Blade-of-the-Moon! Here are 2 more pics of the Barosaurus ..... A closer look at the Allosaurus ..... It seems to be the same sculpt as the 1:35 Allo with just the tail moving in another direction. This is the unpainted version of the 1:35 Tyrannosaurus ..... 1:20 Tyrannosaurus ..... 1:20 Brachiosaurus ..... 1:20 Futabasaurus .....

The last one is an Elasmosaurus isn't it ? That's what was on the box on mine if I recall correctly ?
I thought it was the same Allo..I actually have that one so it was easier to compare the images with my model.
I'd love to have the 1/20 Brachio and Bellowing Rex..... I saw that Brachio go for 500.00 last year...whew !

Ah too bad . I have the Allo (see the "no one has this" thread) and the 100 mm Dinoland Baro, that could stand in for the baby, so I'm 2/3rds of the way there Even the Battat diplo is no substitute for the big baro, though.

No indeed, neither is a substitute for the other. One needs both. Both! ;D ;D

No problem. I'll post these shortly. I imagine it's a 'lost in translation' scenario ;D Perhaps the original Japanese was Waterworld or something!

You know if you look up pics of James Gurney you can see he has an extensive Kaiyodo vinyl collection. It's also apparent in his art work...thumb through his Dinotopia books and look at the images of the models and you can see it.

But yah, perhaps he used them as inspiration.

I know he did..lol Look at the Bellowing Rex and the Giganotosaurus VS Rex piece from the 2nd book...it's funny he used the Rex model for the Giga's pose... ;D Those photos of him..I think the first I saw in Smithsonian..were what made aware of the Kaiyodo pieces..

Wow! Thanks for starting this thread, blackdanter! I've always admired these figures, but I'm a big Araki fan too! I've always thought that Chasmo was the best out there. (Seems like this one's lower legs don't quite mach up with the upper ones, especially the front pair.) I wish Papo would do a Chasmo. They would also have great details, but with a much lower price tag, hehe! Here's a nice pic I have of the Baros and Allo... Here's a nice Baro model dio from Pangaea Designs, but without the Allo... Here's their link (also some nice models)... www.pangaeadesigns.com/dinosaurs.phpAnd, let's not forget the beautiful Kaiyodo Dinoland Saltasaurus 1/20 Vinyl Model Kit... I wish I could say I have all of these figures above, but sadly I only own the pics of them.
