Hi Copper,
I have just got into Dinosaurs figures after seeing a Papo figure by chance in a local shop. I thought the paint jobs were adequate but then I received a horrible raptor which I repainted and was really pleased with the result. I then decided to get a few more and have started to paint them as and when I have the time.
Anyway, I can't stop looking at the Gigantosaurus repaint you did; it is beautiful, so believable with that muted colour scheme.
.... to the point of this post: I have just repainted my Papo Spinosaurus with quite a bit of detail but there is something I just don't like about it. Elements of it I love but it is quite bright, maybe that is what is bothering me as I'm not sure and animal of that size should be so "perky".
I'll post the result up later and would appreciate your input and any others who have something constructive to say. Thanks in advance.

I had a tinker with it when I got home and I'm a lot happier with it although I'm just not so sure about it's face markings. I still really like the darker grey tones of the original paint job although it was patchy in places. Anyway, I'm not going to do any more as I'll just make a mess. What do you think? I have posted pics on my Papo thread.

hi rich72, i think it looks good as it is, in my opinion you don't need to make changes. and i think the facial markings are also nice, if you would took them off, the head would seem a bit dull compared to the body which has those black markings. i can't see it from the photos, but do you repaint the teeth and mouth? in my opinion it is more convincing and a nice touch if one paints the mouth too, as you can always tell the difference between the original factory paint and the repaint. i wouldn't worry about the spino looking patchy, for me it doesn't look that way. small tone changes are natural in the wild too, even if an animal is all grey, it still shows different shades of that color. i saw someone mistook the sheen on the black paint for a glaze on your allosaurus, that is easily fixed by coating the figure with matt varnish / sealant. it also protects the paint job. by the way, in the future if you'd like my opinion, could you post just a link as some people might confuse the picture for my repaint here. it would be great if you could edit the photo into a link. thank you! : )

Thanks Copper, I think it's face markings may just be too precise for my liking and anyway, I'm never 100% happy with my artwork. thanks for your comments.... do you have any more goodness on the way for us?
I had a look at pots of varnish but they are not cheap are they? Do you ever bother covering up the seams of the models? Most of mine are ok to be honest but the Allosaurus has some pretty visible joins.
I did give the mouth and teeth a paint. Finding the balance of light and dark at the moment. I love the fleshiness on the Blade Of The Moons avatar.

as a matt varnish i use winsor & newton's galeria matt varnish and i like it quite a lot. and it's not expensive and is a good quality too.
i have few repaints on the way and more on the line, all commissions. working has been slow since i got sick and almost got better when i got sick again. i wish i'll have time for one or two own repaint pieces too!
