;D
I just bought a Schelich Saltasaurus, and a Schleich Parasaurolophus.
The Saltasaurus is an excellent and accurate figure. It's just brilliant.
What's your latest haul?

Well, I'm waiting for my Camarasaurus Carnegie to arrive. But I'm also eyeing up some of the more expensive figures in the Kinto and Favorite collections. Any recommendations?

From the Favorite line, the tyrannosaurs are disappointing, alas, and the triceratops diminutive. (Papo wins, hands down.) The allosaurus is very nice though, and the stegosaurus is the only one with the throat ossicles, and it resembles the Walking with Dinosaurs stegosaurus. (Almost every stegosaurus now resembles the WwD stegosaurus) . The 'Ankylosaurus sp', which is almost certainly euoplocephalus, while looking rather immobile, is very well made--that is one of the few figures that show just how wide the ankylosaurs are. The brontosaur is very nicely detailed, though somewhat undernourished--its ribs are showing The plesiosaur is quite good, which Dinotoyforum will be pleased to know, ;D though small--then again, the Favorite line is inconsistent in its scale. I like the styracosaurus, except that the jaws seem too agape. The deinonychus has feathers on its arms -- the less said, the better ;D , though otherwise it is nicely posed. The parasaurolophus has a nice, tropical paint scheme. The pteranodon looks rather too much like the Wild Safari and Bullyland pteranodons, though it does have a hook on its back for ease of hanging. The brachiosaur seems kind of unimpressive--then again, I guess I was just expecting it to be bigger ;D I don't have any of the Kinto Desktop series, except for the gorgeous amargasaurus. I've seen pics of the Carnotaurus, and it is wonderful. Ditto the dilophosaurus. The rest of the figures are mostly scaled-up versions of the Favorite line. The best of the Kinto line though are the astonishing Michael Trcic models--though they aren't toys, and definitely aren't priced as such

Well, I'm looking to get something more than just a toy - I'm thinking of the desktop series. My colleague here in Dublin has the Michael Trcic. T. rex - it is quite spectacular. I'm not keen on the Triceratops because I'm not convinced by the posture. I would plump for the Kinto Plesiosaurus skull, but I've seen some of these first hand, and I am not impressed with the quality. So much choice...

The Papo Triceratops seems sort of...odd to me. I'd prefer the Favorite one. It's far more accurate. Even the Carnegie one looks better. There's something about it that really turns me off. The proportions seem very strange to me.
Oh, and you should really take anything from Kinto. Except for the Rexes. They are kind of small, but they're exquisitely made. Some of the most accurate dinos out there IMHO. The Ankylosaurus is Euplocephalus, though.

Went out for lunch and dropped into a toy shop on my way... They don't usually have dinos, but today there was a single new Schleich Parasaurolophus (the head is very fine indeed), which I bought, and a single Papo Velociraptor, which I strongly considered buying, but decided against. I have now realised, it looks like its taking a dump. ;D
Anyhoo - Para blog coming soon!

Yes. That raptor is particularly bad. Flexible tail, awkward pose, palms aren't facing each other...and last but no least...No feathers. THIS is the reason why he's liked 'round these parts, isn't it?

Ive been naughty this week, and have made several purchases online. I have been focusing mostly on retired Schleich and bullyland animals, including the hard to find Shonisaurus and elasmosaurus.
. But I also splurged and went ahead and picked up an entire Papo collection as well. The figures were well priced too, the T-rex and Spino were $16 and some change a piece.

*wonders how a thread can be filled with so much heresy* One of my faves, if you ask me. The detail is superb. I know there are some mistakes, but so far, no line has been perfect. EVER. I mean, not even Battat, not WwD, not Carnegie, certainly not Hasbro/Kenner. NONE. So, all in all, thank goodness about its being non-feathered, I just don't... BELIEVE... in such stuff ;D

The detail IS superb. But the accuracy is bad. The T.Rex is in a physically extenuating pose, The Velociraptor is. Well. Weird. I would have even taken him in w/o the feathers, were his tail totally straight, and palms facing each others. They could have gotten those two things right and I wouldn't have any issues. Forget the feathers. Triceratops looks strange, Pteranodon has teeth (you DO know what the name itself means...)....And they're overpriced. 'sides, I take accuracy over detail any day. PAPO had the opportunity to make better dinos, and we'll see how they do with Allosaurus. Spinosaurus is superb, though. Too bad I haven't seen it. Pachycephalosaurus fits in the palm of my hand, and he's almost $8 dollars. You should consider that feathered dinosaurs is an accepted scientific theory. Like the theory of gravity or plate tectonics. Maniraptoran dinosaurs were mostly feathered, if not all of them. I say the bigger ones didn't have them, like Gigantoraptor or Therizinosaurus. Too much internal heat. Feathers evolved as a method of insulation, but someone in the Middle Jurassic got naughty with them. Unless you think that the "Behemoth" in the Old Testament was a living dinosaur...>.< But I'm not here to tell you what you should or shouldn't believe. The whole feathers thing came to me as a shock when I first heard about it 10 years ago. I still cherish my scaly raptors. But PAPO should have given them a straight tail and palms facing e/a AT LEAST. Anyways, I received my Maiasaura and Edmontonia from Battat. They're like new. I love them. 14 Battats to go! Minor edit: I just bought a Chap Mei Styracosaurus. The red one. It's pretty cute. I love these Kenner/Hasbro JP1+2 style dinos. They're in good scale with the humans. Some of them, at least. And they can be modded in order to be other dinos, and so on. Very good for customizing.

I don't know about you but I take accuracy over detail any day. and Minor edit: I just bought a Chap Mei Styracosaurus. seem rather paradoxical ;D As for feathered dinosaurs, I just don't believe in miraculous Chinese 'findings'. I think more evidence is needed.

The Styracosaurus is ok. Good proportions. A little marshmellowy. I don't know about the skin, though. Not the kind of skin I'd put on him. I don't think I'd draw him like that. But he's cheaper than any Papo, and wayy bigger. And he makes noises *giggles* But in the end he's an action figure. A pretty nice one. Oh! And he's in scale with Jurassic Park humans, so he'll look good in the diorama I'm gonna make when we get to a house. This is why I bought it. As for the anky that came with it, it's definitely going under the knife one of these days. I'm gonna re-shape its head. If you want the best Styracosaurus ever, the Battat one is one of them. And it was done over 10 years ago. The Carnegie one was retired for a reason. I thought he was sweet, but there's something about it that won't convince me. The Safari one is a great fig. In both colors. The toysmith/Carnage one is still one of the best. But he's hard to stand as his front limbs tend to curve ventrally a little too much. I do find it odd that there haven't been any American dinosaurs with feathery integument found...or maybe there have been, but I don't keep track of those. Do not worry. Eventually I'm going to buy all the Papo ones. But right now, I think they're kind of expensive for the itty bit of plastic that they are. So do not be quick in judging me. I know the biz pretty darn well.
