Aren't they as different-similar as lions and tigers are?

Today: Schleich Edmontosaurus. I like it it's big! Also received this week the Collecta Jobaria (really like the purplish colour), WS Leptoceratops (cute!!), Invicta Plesiosaurus & T-rex, WWD (ugly) T-rex and (goofy but nice) Allosaurus. Last week some Dino Horizons figures moved in - I just couldn't resist! From the flying reptiles: Dimorphodon, Pterodaustro,Tropeognathus; early reptiles: Ichtyostega, Dicynodon; earliest life: Ottoia, Opabinia, Pikaia and Aysheaia. That Opabinia really rocks! I also like the material they're made from, it's slightly bendable. Also an interesting acquistition: the Basel Tsintaosaurus. The lady from the Basel museumshop is extremely helpful!

I had to stare at the picture for a while to spot all of them, but they're really all in there! I have the Collecta Liopleurodon, which is actually a very good figure in this (ambivalent) line. This is the reason I haven't bought the Safari one yet - they are quite similar aren't they? But now the question rises: which one is the better (I'm afraid that's not the one I've got...!)?

You may want to check Dr. Smith's review of the Safari Liopleurodon, if you're not yet convinced of its superiority. He aided in its design.

Thanks for your reply mnemosaurus, yeah they are all in there, took me an hour to figure out how to place them , buy hey! look it worked haha, worse part was I had to remve almost every shell, rock crystal fossil you name it, but yeah it was worth the fun, one this is for sure, no more marine animals going on that shelf, the shelves are from thick glass, but it's still glass ya know kinda breakable iif it gives way because of the weight haha ;D As the model of my Lipleurodon goes I dunno, it looked good at first, it kinda remonded me of the one I saw on the BBC1 TV channel one day , Walking With Dinosaurs Episode 3 : Cruel Sea I was like crikey! I really love to have one of these guys! Look at the size of this thing ain't she gorgeous! whoo Hoo Marine Reptiles Rule!! Steve Irwin style Also when when it owned that Allosaur, that was awesome, poor bugga never knew what hit him, until he found out that his life was going to end in a very short time. Hmm is there a link to this review Dan? If so I'd be interested to read it what I did read was this one and yeah it seems that this is avery accurate model of the Lipleurodon www.dinotoyblog.com/2010/02/03/liopleurodon-wild-safari-by-safari-ltd/only 20 years ago it was known that the Kronosaurus was the largest known pliosaur, but with Walking with Dinosaurs they say that the Liopleurodon is the largest carniverous animal ever found, , so what i'd like to know is is Kronosaurus really smaller? As from this point II have not found some clear detail about these two monsterous and deadly Pliosaurs

Yes, that was Adam's review. Edit: One of the major complaints of WwD is that they exaggerated the Liopleurodon's size, actually.

yeah I thought so 25 meters heh kinda oversized rofl, I had more like 16 meters in mind, thereby being somewhat shorter than Kronosaurus, Krono was larger than Lipleuro afaik. well one thing is for sure the next marine reptile will; be this Pliosaurus! www.ne.jp/asahi/fragi/ragi/gallery/e_pliosaurus.htmljust look at the beauty! even theamount of detail it has on the skull: Length: 30cm & Scale: 1/20 Deffinitely a must have this one, only the site I found it on seems to be Japanese of some sort, I hope there is a place here in the EU that has these as well

Not too mention WWD also greatly exaggerated Ornithocheirus' size. WWD just isn't as accurate as it should have been.

Going to be honest-- don't think those models get sold much. And I would guess most of them are in the high hundreds price range.
Really, I just want the Protospinax shark!
EDIT--Just looked again; it looks like the coolest ones are actually one offs. There are some very nice resin kits that, indeed, cost several hundred dollars each, but I don't think they are commercially available beyond the sculptor (he's the X-Plus Albertosaurus and Styracosaurus sculptor).

Aren't they as different-similar as lions and tigers are? Nah, lions and tigers have virtually identical skeletons. In fact, there isn't a lot of variety in cats' skeletons at all. I'm tempted to believe the people who claim that different tyrannosaur lineages emerged in North America and Asia, so that the similarities between Tyrannosaurus and Tarbosaurus are the result of convergent evolution towards large size.
