Well, I had an extra Carnegie Diplo so I cut and pasted it to an upright position, and did a few other things to it. Hopefully, it can still be called Diplodocus. Ha, ha! Better picture.

That is one nice Amphicoelias ;D
Seriously, if the original Battat had been in colours more like that, I'd probably have been more tempted at the time.
And it looks pretty seamless from the photo.

Thanks, and yes it is seamless, I can't see any joints at all. I got all the skin reproduced very well, if I say so myself.

Absolutely gorgeous work again, Paleo! I love it. *Kowtows* It's not a poor man's Battat Diplo; it's a wonderful work entirely in its own right.

I might need to take some better pictures, it was dark. great job,it may be better then the battat, cause you made it yourself, therefore making it a one of a kind ;D

WOWZAH! I have both, the Battat and the Carnegie, and I think I like this one best! For me, I think it's the row of tiny WwD-like spikes that really draws me to it. A lot of time and patience! Congrats on your winning efforts! BTW, I like your paint job. The only thing I might add is maybe a dark wash over the whole figure to blend everything together a bit more. And, maybe then some lighter dry-brushing on the pronounced musculature areas. But, even as is, it's a really nice paint job! ;D

This photo is real bad, the head and face are painted( I actually left the original paint job there.) and there is a dark wash with dry brushing. None of that shows up at all. Need to get better photos!

It does look like you took this one with flash. Given how good you normally are at photographing figures I look forward to the better photos!

WOW! Very impressive! I can't believe that its the Carnegie diplo, you can't tell at all! Love the spikes on the back... wish the original gave it one. You know, if you ever want to sell it... Keep me in mind What a one of a kind piece of art! No, definitely not a poor mans Battat, in fact I would say better Wanna trade it for the Battat ;D Very cool, thanks for sharing and making me wish for it ;D

Would you mind doing a walkthrough on how you did this one? I would be really interested in hearing about your technique!

I would as well. This is great, and I have a bunch of "spare" figures I'd love to mod, if only I knew some of the better techniques.
Great work! It's really a gorgeous figure.

OK. I use a Dremel power tool for my choice of weapon of destruction. A rotary 1-1/4" fiberglass cut off wheel is used. At section (a) a series of vertical cuts are made, this removes enough material to allow the tail to be flexible. You can then bend the tail into the proper shape and use gap filling super glue with accelerator to glue it permanently into position. Cut (b) removes the entire thigh. This is harder since my circular blade won't cut completely through and a Xacto saw or knife is needed to complete the amputation. The leg is then repositioned and super glued in place. Cut (c) is at the knee which is bent back and a small wedge of balsa wood is inserted and glued in place. On the other side cuts at (a) and (b) are made and filled and glued. Cuts at (c) are made and the neck can be positioned, wedges inserted if needed and then super glued. All cut edges are beveled with an Xacto knife or Dremel tool. Then Magic Sculpt epoxy putty is used to fill all cuts and re-sculpted with clay working tools. New hands were made also. And finally the spines were added with Magic Sculpt This shows the technique more or less. When the Diplo was done I didn't have my camera at hand. ;D Hope this helps. Any questions?

That is awesome, thanks for the info. Now can you show how far you have gotten on the one you are making for me?

That is awesome, thanks for the info. Now can you show how far you have gotten on the one you are making for me? Ha, ha, ha I would if I had time for everything. But, I have a few other figures to do, also my store for some reason demands attention. I also repair model trains and do custom paint jobs on them. Plus the Diplo is labor intensive, it took about 10 hours of labor spread out over about one month, and even at the cheap rate of $10.00/hr plus the $29.00 for the figure it becomes a rather expensive figure to be making for others. I however have done a few projects for people but simpler and smaller ones. However if you have a spare Battat Diplo I could convert it to a walking position! I'd enjoy that!! ;D ;D

Ten hours, is that all? I'd have expected thirty upwards were I to work on something this large and with as much extensive alteration.
