Yeah, sure, you bet.
The origin of turtles continues to be a mystery. Possible ancestors dot the whole cladogram of reptiles, motivating study of all the candidates. This interest in prehistoric animals has attracted me to visit many museums. Several years ago I bought a set of Cambrian Prehistoric Predators at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto. That got me hooked on collecting. Years of viewing Randy Knol's website, "Dinosaur Collector," led me to this forum, with all of its fantastic talent. My main interest is the Triassic, but I find the Paleozoic fascinating as well. While my collection of dinosaurs is weak, I have a few hundred of their oldest friends. Next year looks like it will be great for new issues.
I'm retired from teaching high school biology, am married (sorry ladies), have two daughters, a grandson, a granddaughter, and an African Gray parrot.

Knowing that I am out of your league, it is nice to feel welcome. Out of our league...? In what sense?

In the sense that the size of my collection is the victim of thrift. I'm not sure that I executed the attachment correctly for this site.

Sbell, since you were able to view the attachment, then it is posted OK. Being new, I was not aware that login was required to see attachments. Schleich #12601 shows up on German eBay every now and then for under $20. It is also available in brown as #12621, also rare. Let us hope that Bullyland will offer a realistic Proganochelys some day.
Horridus, thank you for your reassurance. Thrift may be hereditary with folks like me of Scottish descent.

I've let it pass by for far less than that--I guess, at the end of the day, I just don't want it that bad. I'm sure I'll find it eventually. I've managed to hunt down most of the odd little things I've wanted.

I can only echo what Horridus has already said (especially the weeping part). Besides which, my own collection is still pretty small, relatively speaking. And thrift is eminently commendable. I wish I was more disciplined in following it. ;D

Welcome to the forum Stemturtle,
I'm also a new member and have got to say that everybodies really friendly so far!
Sounds like you have a pretty decent collection, I think most of us like to see or hear about non-dinosaur models etc. I have a few trilobites which I like a great deal (especially a fossil Phacops and the Kaiyodo Triarthus), so sympathise with your Paleozoic interests completely.
Be good to see more photos of your early beasties!

The identification of Captorhinus is based on the orange model, tail pointing down. The green model shown above appears to have been reworked, with tail straight out. Gaffney proposed the anapsid family Captorhinidae as the sister group to turtles. They appeared in the early Permian. Some researchers place turtles at the base of the split between archosauromorphs and lepidosauromorphs. Don't you love a mystery?

stemturtle: "out of your league". Isn´t every collection small at the beginng?! It´s not the amount of figures one has, it´s the attitude that matters. I´m as interested in peoples´ motivations for collecting as much as I am in the dinosaur figure themselves.

Good-hearted Libraraptor: What are enough figures? Just a few more than we will ever own.
Here is a confession. When Link and Pin Hobbies was selling the Alchemy mural of Eryops in 2004, I though $70 was a lot of money. Now I must cry myself to sleep at night for not placing an order. I have learned from my mistakes. That is the same price as the set of Dawn of the Dinosaurs from Clawmark Toys. I finally own a rhynchosaur!
