I was thinking about buying some of these guys or maybe even some of the 1/72 scale. Does anyone have any of the Shapeways 1/144 models? And if so could you show some pics perhaps with a size comparison? I'm wondering whether I should (or could) paint something that small well. Also, the website lists materials like "White Strong and Flexible". Are they really flexible, or just barely so? If anyone could help me with some of these questions, I would much appreciate it!

Postsaurischian should be able to help you, he has some of those. I have other Shapeways models, but not yet the Krentz ones. The 'White Strong and flexible' material seems fairly flexible; but, depending on the parts, it does feel to me as though it could snap if one isn't careful. But I have never tried bending it, so I may be mistaken.

Hi Therizinos, I don't have items for size comparison in my pictures but let's see if this may help: "1/144" Triceratops in "White Detail". Actually it's closer to 1/100 given that the skull is 24.5 mm long. White Detail is smoother but more expensive than White, Strong & Flexible. It seems also more brittle, the tip of the tail of mine was broken and it was not too esy to glue it back on properly, the fragment was tiny like 4*1 mm. "1/144" Ankylosaurus in "Transparent Detail". Also closer to 1/100 with a skull 7.5 mm in length and 62 mm total length. This material needs to be thoroughly cleaned when you get it as it has sticky remains of excess materials on it that need to be removed before you can see it in full detail. As you can see by the horizontal lines on the Triceratops, it's not only the smallness of the models that would probably make them difficult to paint. And even in "White Detail" which is said to have the highest resolution still quite some detail gets lost during production. Still I'd highly recommend these models and I think it's possible to paint them with lots of patience - I didn't dare to do it so far.

No - mine are white, strong & flexible. I had the Trike in both materials and I really couldn't see the difference. I can't say anything about the transparent material though.

Those all look really cool! I'm sold on the White, Strong and Flexible! For some reason only the Triceratops and Tyrannosaurus are the only ones available right now (as far as I'm aware), but I do hope to get all these and maybe paint them up. Thanks again for all the pics!

I just love this picture! VEry creative way to illustrate size! I'm still finding it hard to believe how small they really are. I just received the last 4 figures... I'm not sure I can paint them

Paint them, first you have to find them!

Hey guys
I have not made an 'official announcement' - you know, like in PT, about the shapeways stuff. Shapeways has serious limitations on what you can print, so I'm still working out the design problems. Its been a pain in the butt dealing with the process, and every now and then a model is suddenly NOT AVAILABLE, so then I have to find out why and fix it. Also, I had to see how much I needed to exaggerate details in order for them to looks good. The Ankylo here is an older print, the new one looks way better, as does the Rex.
So far the best looking results have been the BLACK DETAIL. The regular white material has too many grow lines at this scale...why this scale you ask?
I loved doing the Microsaurs at 1/200 scale but the production problems with something that small were prohibitive. I decided to change the scale of Microsaurs to 1/144th ( it a railway scale I think..and half the size of 1/72) to make it easier on myself. These Shapeways models are all Hell Creek Dinos, in keeping with the Microsaurs theme of dinos from the same location. Since I built the models digitally for printing master copies I thought I may as well try them out on Shapeways first. Master copies for what you ask?
Pewter.
Probably by spring these will be out in pewter and sold as a set like the first Microsaurs. I redo the Judith River set in this scale too just to keep it consistent.
The Sauropod here was not supposed to be available to the public because it was a personalized 25th wedding anniversary present that was printed in $ILVER. I had to keep the model available for a few days ( with the warning about its personalized nature) to see if it was printable. Postsaurischian must've bought it during that time...heck, I don't even own a copy of it! I'll check with the 'patron' and see if she'd let me release it without the personalized plaque in a Morrison set.
My customers have had incredible patience with my stuff. I am notoriously late with orders. I'm doing whatever I can to relieve myself of the whole taking orders/boxing and shipping process. My life is just too busy for that and I really feel I'm letting everyone down. I don't make any money on this hobby but I sure do like people to have my work. I'm just making the toys I wish I had as a kid.
Anyway, stay tuned for more stuff this year...promise...no really...

Wow, it's great to see you here~!
Anyways, I was wondering if you are still designing dinosaurs for sideshow...
(Especially since that the sideshow T.rex maquette is my fav piece from the line so far~)

Hi and welcome, I think we all feel very honoured here. I hope you keep on publishing models like these on shapeways, they're excellent as always! I'd love to see the rearing sauropod available again (I was a bit slower than Postsaurischian ). Whatever comes up next this year, I'm sure most of us can't wait to see it.

We might feel very honoured indeed! Great to read from one of my Dinosaur designer heroes here at The Dinosaur Toy Forum!!! ....... (Especially since that the sideshow T.rex maquette is my fav piece from the line so far~) I do agree with that!! ....... The Sauropod here was not supposed to be available to the public ....... Postsaurischian must've bought it during that time...heck, I don't even own a copy of it! ....... I'd like to ask a lot of questions, especially about the animated movie in progress, but I'm sure you won't have too much time to get back to this place ...... but it would be wonderful to hear from you from time to time .
