Ok got good news , i now own the rights molds and masters to the Torvosaurus model i sculpted for Darren McDonald on commission. So it will soon be added to my Web site but i wanted to let the foks here know. The price will also change to 199$ plus shipping and if i can get it roto casted it will be even less, not sure. this model is 1/20th scale and is 21.5 "long. Attachments:

I was aiming to buy it for 150.00 from Dan when tax returns hit..but the price increase floored me a bit. Is Darren just aiming at doing his own pieces from now on ? Just curious why he gave this one up is all. The Amarga looks great..you should def hit Martin up for a base.. ;D

I can understand that, I was just kinda set on the 150.00 then it went it up so much and I kinda blew it off. I might still be in for 199.00 ..but I have to factor in shipping and build/painting costs you know ? How much was the Allosaurus at first ? It was roto-casted I think wasn't it ?

Sure even though that purchase you made had nothing to do with me , it did have something to do with the model i now own so its good business to do this , its the way i like to roll . Anyway , not pushing for a sale just let me know when or if your ready and i will take care of you getting that Stegosaur into your hands. Its almost to scale with the Torvo so they will look cool together. My customers coming back is what allows me to do this for a living peroid, and i dont take that for granted! Attachments:

We really need more paleoartists like you, Shane. Not even brown-nosing or anything here. Let me get back to you on that Stegosaurus. It shouldn't be very long though.

I want to make one thing very clear about the Torvosaurus sculpture , Darrens Prices of 229 were very fair for such a fine piece of art and no body over paid ,the only reason the price was lower when he first released it was too generate interest and offer a special deal the currant price of 229 is perfect due to the fact that he had to have the kit molded and casted out of state and that drives the cost of the kit up but its still not high. Im very lucky to have my mold maker and caster 45 minutes from me so i dont have to pay shipping to pick up castings, this cuts down my overhead thus allowing me to price things alittle cheaper, it has nothing to do with the prices Darrens charged for the Torvo or any other kit he sells ,he has always been very fair and thoughtful of the prices he charges his customers. You need to check out some of the new stuff he has coming out and support him with his work. The only reason i may lower the price of the torvosaur is IF i can get it ROTO casted to reudece the amount of resin, this is not yet confirmed so for now the price stays as is, the offer i made to one of the customers here was my choice regarding that peticular sale and does not reflect the price of the Kit, Darren should get paid for his models and the price he ask is fair based on his over head to produce them, just wanted to make that clear. thanks,.

So it's back to 229.00 to be more clear ? I didn't make it seem like I was being too critical did I ? That's not what I was getting at. I know as a seller you want the most for your item and buyers want something as cheap as possible. All I was saying was I was looking for the best deal is all. As I had mentioned I was in at 150.00..prices going up tends to make me shy away a little..partly because I'm kicking myself for not having the funds to get it when it was less. So I mean no insult when I haggle over price..it's just something I'm very used to doing you know ?

Actually Chris it has nothing to do with anyone, i just didnt want anyone thinking i was trying to make Darren look bad , because i wasnt, his price of 229 was his price based on his over head and they still sold well at that price. Im saying im going to try and offer it at 199 plus shipping to see if i can afford to do that and if i can Roto cast it i will, The 150 price was something alot of us producers including Darren, do and offer them for less during preorder time this allows the maker of the model to pay off the mold work faster and get the model out there and seen. If you want the best deals then jump on them if you can if not then it is what it is. These are just special prices we do to help get the sales started and cut deals for the buyers , its not something we have to do its something we want to do thats all. I think this model will sell well. I think all of you know how nice these sculpts are and that they are priced fair considering they are not massed produced. sorry if its confusing.

I don't think anyone thought you were making Darren look bad..I didn't see that at all. Your sculpts easily speak for themselves , same with your service. It would be nice to know how long the pre-order price will last so one could plan more effectively for it. I wasn't able to take advantage of it, but your Christmas sale was really set up right. A listed start and end date for it..that's a good way to go.

What company(s) make these awesome models? Id really love to have some to paint for myself! How do you get them to look so realistic?

These aren't actually made by a large-scale company. Shane Foulkes is the sculptor for all the models you see on www.cretaceouscreationsofamerica.com. For example, the Torvosaurus you see at the top of this page is sculpted by Shane. The Amargasaurus you see was sculpted by Jorge Blanco. You can actually find that one on eBay for a reasonable price. How does one make them look so realistic? With a heck of a lot of talent But mostly, artists use a combination of airbrush, paintbrush techniques and pastels.
