Pterosaurs! Lots & lots of pterosaurs - anything beyond Pteranodon & Quetzalcoatalus. And before Cordy gets a chance "and you're out of business" ;D Okay so they are not "dinosaurs" - but in that case I would do: Albertosaurus (close enough to T. rex that most people wouldn't know/care - forum members excepted ) Koolasuchus (an unusual temnospondyl) Therizinosaurus Velociraptor Longisquama Okay okay - so only 3 of the 5 are dinosaurs....

6 to start, eh? You'd want a mix of popular dinos to start, with more obscure ones produced later. Plus I'd want some sort of natural grouping for the waves of figures (and there would be multiple waves!) so something like this:
Wave 1: Tyrannosaurus, Triceratops, Ankylosaurus, Edmontosaurus, Pachycephalosaurus, Dromeosaurus
Wave 2: Stegosaurus, Allosaurus, Apatosaurus, Camptosaurus, Ceratosaurus, Camarasaurus
Wave 3: Velociraptor, Protoceratops, Oviraptor, Pinacosaurus, Gallimimus, Sauronithoides
Wave 4: Albertosaurus, Corythosaurus, Styracosaurus, Parasaurolophus, Chasmosaurus, Stegoceras
And from there, I'd just make a mixture of cool stuff and exotic stuff without worrying about natural groupings. Stuff like Spinosaurus, Giganotosaurus, Brachiosaurus, some of the new ceratopsids, etc.

Firstly, I'd start with about ten or more, but these are them:
Tyrannosaurus rex Stegosaurus stenops Triceratops horridus Apatosaurus excelsus (NOT Brontosaurus!) Velociraptor mongolensis (NOT V.antirrhopus nublarensis!) Mosasaurus hoffmani Parasaurolophus walkeri Pterodactylus elegans Dimetrodon grandis Pachycephalosaurus wyomingensis

This is turning into a "What do you want" thread....if it wasnt from the beginning. It was never intended that way. You might want a wave featuring a 1:12 scale Edaphosaurus but it wouldn't be that viable, if you see what I mean. My second wave would probably be: 1. Baryonyx (I have yet to see a decent one) 2. Smilodon (popular) 3. Triceratops (again, would sell) 4. Nyctosaurus (a bit more interesting that Pteranodon) 5. Ornithomimus (feathered) 6. Coelophysis (not enough of these!)

1) Tyrannosaurus 2) Spinosaurus 3) Deinonychus 4) Stegosaurus 5) Ankylosaurus 6) Ceratosaurus As the first six, I would not produce any sauropods, just to save plastic and money

i kind of like the ideal of releasing the dinosaurs by time period come to think of it. that way you could actually use them the make realistic dioramas. all the dinos would be to the same scale in i would reallease a group of plants the fit in with the time periods.
Tyrannosaurus Triceratops Ankylosaurus Edmontosaurus Alamosaurus Pachycephalosaurus Hypacrosaurus Ornithomimus Torosaurus Anatotitan
Parasaurolophus Albertosaurus chasmosaurus euoplocephalus Daspletosaurus styracosaurus lambeosaurus corythosaurus dromaeosaurus maiasaura pachyrhinosaurus edmontonia
apatosaurus diplodocus stegosaurus brachiosaurus allosaurus ceratosaurus camptosaurus camarosaurus Barosaurus

Company name: Natures Majesty toy line: The wondrous world of prehistory scale 1:40 First six dinosaurs to start out with.
Tyrannosaurus Dracorex ( and maybe cut a deal with warner bros to bundle it with a Harry Potter movie pack) Triceratops Stegosaurus and a series of tubes filled with 1:40 scale prehistoric creatures that would be in direct scale with the main line of dinosaurs

If we're just talking about figures that are most likely to be purchased by everyone (i.e. recognized by people who aren't necessarily collectors) and not those we'd all like to see made, I'd say you have to have:
Tyrannosaurus A sauropod (Apatosaurus, Brachiosaurus/Giraffatitan or Diplodocus) Stegosaurus Triceratops Another theropod (Velociraptor or Spinosaurus) A mammal (a mammoth or Smilodon)
We all probably own 100 of these, but I still think they'd be the most likely to sell.

If I started a dinosaur toy company? Well, let's start by saying that all my toys would have a card with its name and information about the species represented. Because I would represent almost only obscure species. Like:
1- CHARCARODONTHOSAURUS. Yes, because little boys just love carnivorous dinosaurs. So, a good Charcarodonthosaurus would be welcome and I would, on my card, talk about the biggest carnivorous mouth on land of prehistory; a bigger mouth than T-Rex's!
2- MEGALOSAURUS. For the same reason as Charcarodonthosaurus (carnivorous dinos are popular). And on my card, I would specify that it's the very first dinosaur discovered and scientifically described.
3- WHOOLY RHINOCEROS. Yes, because a line with no common species at all is not always welcome by the large public. But still, there are not that many Whooly Rhinos out there, despite its popularity. So, it would be part of my first line.
4- THYLACOSMILUS. I would introduce to my customers the marsupial counterpart of the Smilodon and tell about its fangs comparable to the Sabre-Tooth Cat.
5- MAMENCHISAURUS. The biggest toy in my first line. Don't you think people would like to discover the longest neck in history? This close relative to the Diplodocus would be interesting as a toy.
6- PTERODAUSTRO. A whale-mouthed Pterosaur with teeth like baleens. I would tell, on its card, about its way of life similar to a flying baleen whale.
What do you think of this list?

I would agree to the Wave idea. Coming out with a series every year not unlike all the toy companies out there now.
Year 1: Barosaurus, Allosaurus, Torvosaurus, Stegosaurus, Camptosaurus
Year 2: Tyrannosaurus, Edmontosaurus, Oloratitan, Triceratops, Anklyosaurus
Year 3: Giganotosaurus, Carnotaurus, Argentinosaurus, Kritosaurus
Year 4: Carcharodontosaurus, Spinosaurus, Giraffatitan, Ouranosaurus
Year 5: Tarbosaurus, Yangchunosaurus, Mamenchisaurus, Saurolopus

Lambeosaurus T.rex (I still don't really like any of the current ones--arms not puny enough! Also tend to have exaggerated head/facial features IMHO) Deinonychus Apatosaurus (still don't really like any of the new ones of this, either) Allosaurus (we can always use more of them!) Kentrosaurus (a really big, detailed one)
