I have already some precise informations about it, at first its size. This is the end of one century of debatte about this. There are no 'ends' to debates in science--that is the height of arrogance and nonprofessionalism. Unless an in-tact skeleton, or at least a reasonably complete vertebrae series, is recovered, there will always be rational debate about the conclusions reached by any researcher. Did all of you understood what I was saying ? A COMPLETE skeleton of Carcharocles megalodon has been found recently in Peru by the famous paleontologist Klaus Honninger. It is unoffical for now but will be diffused at the end of 2011. And the size of Megalodon have always been a long debatte about this species. What I can say now is : -the estimate I was talking about werent exagerrated. -it was bigger than any pliosaur found.

the Aramberri was 18m long !!!!!!!!!!!! Lio99, Actually, this is me who informed you about the existence of the Monster of Aramberri. And if you have read the email I received from Dr Marie Celine Buchy (marine reptile expert and one of the founders of the Monster), you would have seen this : The journalists are often too enthousiastic for really listen the answers. The Monster of Aramberri measured around 15 metres long. There is no indication of the 18 m which are seen on the internet. With "only" 15 metres long, it is yet the largest pliosaur known, or surely identified.
As for the article of Adam Stuart Smith, he stated this : The Monster of Aramberri Hit the mainstream media: 2002. Estimated length in media: 18 m. Conservative estimated length 15 m.The conservative estimate is the one used and reliable from scientifical works. See what Dr Buchy said : "medias are too enthousiastics". Sorry for you, but a 15 m pliosaur is already a massive top predator. However, as hinted above, much bigger other marine apex predators have existed.

Clearly we did not understood [sic] what you were saying--how many times did I (and others) ask if a skeleton was found? And then you would respond with a long-winded rejoinder about the end of a debate. So a skeleton has been found. Awesome. And yet not a single mention of it anywhere in the news. Strange. That seems like the sort of thing that would be worthy of a press release.

However : The skeleton is 18,43 m long (the holotype of Livyatan melvillei of the same epoch and area is between 13,5 m and 17,5 m estimated). It seems that it was finally really roughly similar in shape to Carcharodon carcharias. I think we'll have an overdose of Megalodon in the medias soon...
