I love that Triceratops, Arioch, and I'm usually less excited about ceratopsids. Hope you don't mind - it's my new desktop image (with Niroot's crown dragon as my desktop file folder image). ;D

Thanks! Quite a collection you have there...! its quite flattering. The Spino and Carno are looking marvelous. Not a carno though, but a relative. ;D I have no idea of what happened with Art Evolved btw, because there where more "sketchy" drawings featured there (with all respect to the authors), maybe the mails didnt arrive...which is kinda infuriating.

So sorry; Rugops. *Facepalm* I'm afraid I'm rather tired today.
You ought to try again with Art Evolved. That's why I thought it was surprising as they are so wonderfully open with accepting all kinds of submisions.

Well, I think the period to send stuff to their galleries has expired. Nevermind. Right now I´m thinking of participate in a paleoart contest, the Hell Creek art challenge. Though might be a bit too late to start with the last one... z13.invisionfree.com/Hell_Creek/index.php?showtopic=126Its a recently created paleontological forum, and so far there are quite some interesting members with very advanced knowledge. I invite you all fine artists to join and participate at least in the paleo art contest. ;D

Another sketch. Not sure if perspective and proportions are right on this one. Its a tricky angle. Its what I think Microraptor gliding stance could have been like. Uploaded with ImageShack.us

The right leg and tail look a little off with regards to perspective. If you didn't already try may I suggest using a model or picture to reference the pose? That usually helps with tricky poses.

I see what you mean. Looking at it in a smaller pic the flaws are more evident than in the sheet. I think I should lower and move backwards the base of the tail, but modify the right leg angle without making it look too stretched will be harder. I think I´ll check my bird books for any reference Ok, how about now? Uploaded with ImageShack.us

The angle of the feathers on the left leg isn't quite right. I think I've shown you how it should be before.

I'm quite certain Arioch remembers the leg feather facts well. It's just rather tricky to draw angled feathers -- not without somebody else suggesting one is drawing them too short or lopsided or some other reason... ;D

Indeed... perspective angles are not my forte. I´m aware that details like left leg feathers angle ought to be changed in order to be symetrical with the right leg. I just was more worried with the general shape and pose. But anyway, you think primaries are long enough? Updated version. Uploaded with ImageShack.usI´ve had enough of this one for now. I´ll probably focus in finish the Spino, Sue and something else...

Update of an old concept sketch. 3 Variraptor Mechinorum (2 adults and a sub adult female at the left) feast on a Rhabdodon carcass, in Late Cretaceous central europe. To recreate Variraptor feathery I got inspiration from moderns owls and eagles. Any tip on the colour scheme??

I love the detail work, but this brings up a problem I have with doing detailed pieces...love them as I do. See how the one raptor's head is down at the chest and as a result almost disappears into all the detail ? It's difficult to see, now imagine you have detailed the WHOLE thing..background, trees, plants, ground, ect..it's hard for the eye to know where to focus. I've been cutting back on detail in plant life and background, and shading the areas where detailed subjects cross more heavily to bring them out. Any other things to try ?

I see what you mean...Hopefully such details would stand out more when I paint it (though I still cant find any proper scheme. And I lack the skill to make this piece justice in colour ) Also maybe the left Vari head had too much shading (already changed that in Da) durbed.deviantart.com/art/The-Feast-254968968 - there´s little difference though.

With contrasting colors the head shouldn't be a problem.
