Recently I had a little to-do with a neighbor to the North who left a positive feedback but with negative connotations. In fact he was defamatory and personally insulting. I contacted eBay to ask them to remove specific comments administratively. They refused to do so and the following is part of their answer:
"I've reviewed the feedback you asked about and though I really
understand your distress, I'm afraid I can't remove it as it doesn't
meet these requirements. The guidelines for determining vulgar and
inappropriate language were established by our legal department.
Profane, vulgar, obscene, or racist language or adult content is
removed. Inflammatory language, such as "fraud, liar, cheater, scam
artist, con man" and words like it, are strongly discouraged but not
removed.
Moreover, I'd like to let you know that under the new feedback policy,
sellers no longer have the option of leaving either negative or neutral
feedback for buyers. As such, it is a violation of eBay policy for
sellers to leave positive feedback containing negative comments about
the transaction for buyers. For example, if a seller leaves a positive
Feedback rating for a buyer that states, "Negative!" or "Sellers
Beware", these comments would be removable under the policy 'Negative
Statement conflict with positive rating'.
However, because buyers still have the option to leave negative and
neutral ratings, it is not a violation of eBay policy for buyers to
leave positive Feedback containing negative or neutral comments."
In other words while sellers can do nothing to warn other sellers buyers can say anything they want with impunity!
