Here's something I was wondering. Could Emus and Raptors be related some how? I saw an Emu today and it acted like a Raptor would. Very mean. Raoptors are very territorial if correct. I wonder if in time if scientists cloned stuff they could make a raptor? ;D

My boss owns an emu as a pet. She is a very sweet bird, having been human-raised since she was hatched

I think I saw a pic of Melody's pet Emu once... ;D We've considered keeping a couple here ourselves..but not sure how well they would do in winter.

I think she has a picture on "ed" on her facebook page. So far this emu has done fine with our Oregon winters, but they are fairly mild, and she has a nice warm barn to sleep in, and warm llamas.

If anything they would be closely related to Cassowaries ;D: (I´m not serious since their big feet claws are actually very different)

I would say the seriama but their closest relatives are actually the Phorusrhacidae (terror birds). ;D

All modern birds evolved from a single ancestor, so all birds are equally closely related to raptors. The ancestors of flightless birds of emu were things similar to Tinamou, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tinamou not particularly raptor-like. However, in reverting to the role of large ground bird, they would be in a similar ecological niche. All large flightless maniraptors, raptors included, seem to approach the same basic "type".
