Here are a couple of photos showing the absolute first thing to making one of these figures-in this case a 1/40 Kosmoceratops- I cut out the parts for the armature in stiff cardboard(I like to use the cardboard that backs pads of paper once the pads are used up, or old boxes glommed from the recycling bin)- you can see that the frill is just minimal as it is just the cross section at the midline of the frill- once I have the parts cut out, I glue floral wire (or heavier wire if the model is a larger piece) to the parts that need support, such as the legs in this case- these wires are attached to the legs are then glued to the main body cross section piece, and then attached to a base-

Def going for the more active poses aren't we ? Should be sweet ! ;D They are just walking- was thinking of making one galloping but decided against it for now on these two ceratopsians- I started off just doing the Utahceratops but the two were mentioned together in articles and semed like a good pair of species to start off with-will cetainly do more ceratopsians, want to do one of those Diabloceratops you mentioned-

Nice sculpt! Looks nice and bulky. What are the horns made of? The horns are made of Epoxy sculpt- I usually make horns , teeth or any other smaller parts with epoxy, the rest in Roma plastilene clay-

I love your poses. I'm working on a Kosmo too! Thanks, although I cant take credit for the poses of the Utahceratops or the Kosmoceratops. I really dont know much about ceratopsians myself, so i dont have that instinct to mess around with the pose like I do with other dinosaurs for instance therapods-so I basically just used the poses of the skeletal drawings that they have on Wiki when you look up these two guys. I was asked to do a Utahceratops, and figured that the Kosmo seems to go hand in hand with that one,as it was mentioned in a lot of the reference I had found for the Utahceratops-I guess they were found nearby each other? I am sure your Kosmo will be much better than the one I am doing.

Malcolm - one question on your ceratopsians - are you going to give them cheeks as most reconstructions do?
Because the long open mouth version that your work in progress photos hint at - well - it just looks wrong. Aesthetically I would recommend the cheek version.
(Now I'm gonna buy them either way, but just my 2 cents worth. Call me prejudiced in favor of ceratopsian cheeks!)

Simon- yes my ceratopsians will have the cheeky look- in these photos showing a rough state, the mouth is just scored in for position to relate the rest of the skull to- although I believe Witmer came out saying that the cheek look was wrong based on the teeth(he may have changed his mind, the article I found online was an older one), I am going to go ahead with that look as it seems to look better to me-and seems more accepted by most people-
