Um, okay well I like to draw, paint and sculpt (a little) so I guess I'm obligated to share some of these things with you all. I'm nowhere near as cool as some of the other incredible talented artists here and I'm just... in awe. Constantly. I don't have much in the dino or prehistoric mammal area. I used to have an acrylic-painting of a mosasaur (back when I first learned of them) but I have the oddest sense that I painted over it. D: What I'm working on right now: I have issues with mammal-figurines. Severe issues. Unique/ornamented mammals get all the attention while 'plain vanilla' mammals like Hyracotherium don't get much in the way of recognition. Also, if they do get any attention as a toy or figurine they... stink. I mean it's like folks say, 'Why bother?' I aim to fix this with my own model of a Hyracotherium. "] It's rough, terribly rough and I need to change the head-size but I like the fat-body. <3 It makes me ridiculously happy for some reason. It's about 3 1/2 inches or 8.89 cm long. I think that means it's 1/14 scale? H. leporinum was about 60 cm in length so... I got it right? And in the 2-D world I'm working on involving a Basilosaurus pair 'spy-hopping'. They probably didn't exhibit this behavior but we don't know for sure. In my head I would think they would. That's it for now but I'll post up new stuff on this thread when I get more done. Thanks for stopping by folks!

Great stuff! I'm really looking forward to seeing the Hyracotherium progress.

This is all very good, but 'artsy-prehistory' things, surely? Ain't no dinosaurs here! ;D You'll also probably attract a wider interest by renaming the thread in such a fashion. There are a few people here who are mostly interested in prehistoric mammals.

Ack! Himmapaan likes my little Hyracotherium! Thank you and I hope to make it superbly pretty for you.
Ooof, your're right Horridus but once these two things are done I'll get to drawing up some dinos later. Thanks man!

Well! I've got a little more progress on the Hyracotherium (those legs are evil) and the Basilosaurus painting is going well too but! I have a favor to ask you all.
I'm entering a little sidewalk chalk competition and one of the categories is Pueblo/Colorado History: I'm still new to there area and I'm coming up with bupkist on local (Pueblo County) dino or prehistoric animal discoveries (I know there were a lot of sharks but I'm not sure if I want to draw them). If I can't find anything local-local I'll go with a general Colorado discovery, I'm kinda considering the mastadon bones found last November.
I need help here folks. What are your suggestions for animals I should use in this chalk-drawing?

I´m interested in prehistoric mammals! heck even in modern ones...
I like that 2 sketches and the sculpt. Looking forward to see the progress. Shamefully I know little about Hyracotherium or any of its relatives, son can´t help with that....
For the competition the mastodon sounds interesting, but I think a dinosaur ( or any predatory mammal ) will attract more attention.

XD Thanks Griffin. Y'know Arioch, I think you're right but as far as definitve dinosaur finds in Pueblo there isn't much. We've got a mesa nearby with thousands of baculite, ammonite and shark tooth fossil. That's about it for the town and county. I'm just like... Stegos, ugh. It would be instantly recognizable but I dunno. I'm kinda thinking of a Torvosaurus but again a Stego would be the most recognizable creature. I do have some ideas of what I want to use for this chalk-drawing competition below. Baculites: So, about 5 miles east of Pueblo is the 'Baculite Mesa'. I kinda like this more than than the other one. Somehow it seems more... interesting. I think in the background I want to add a stone-texture with some of the fossilized baculites and ammonites. Torvosaurus: Eh, it was an idea but I'm not great with the theropod carnivores.

Ah, here is the update on my little Hyracotherium (oh gosh, when finished and ready to mold em, I'm billing it as such) and I swear: I do not look as half-asleep as I do. Well, actually yes. I've got the 'Back-to-School' bug. That odd cocktail of germs that hits you at the beginning of the year. Anyway, added a base, lengthened the muzzle, and added ears. I think I'll get started on details tomorrow.

To spare you the massiveness of this (even resized down to 700x900 it's still big) painting I'm linking you to my deviantArt account: splitcat.deviantart.com/art/Spy-Hop-261904136I like it. Could've added more texture to the skin but I don't know how to do that yet. I love that mouth and I think I got the teeth right (heavily referenced a skull on the wiki-page for B. cetoides) on him. I should do more dinos but.. lemme get off the mammal-kick for a bit okay? Hope you enjoy this!
