The Great Basin Brewery in Sparks, Nevada has recently began to bottle their Ichthyosaur Pale Ale. In hearing about it we were curious on how many other beers are named after prehistoric creatures? And what would be some good names for some that could be bottled. We were not very creative.

Hah, this is great stuff! Too bad I don't drink, and the people behind this drank too much to find a real Ichthyosaur skeleton pic...

This is one of the most interesting thread titles I´ve ever read ;D Hey, Horridus, you like it, too? ;D And yeah, the layout of that bottle is quite cool! Hope it doesn´t taste as dusty as old Ichtyosaur bones

Haha! This is very cool! I'll have to look for a case of this when I go into the liquour store... I'm not a fan of India Pale Ale but I'd like to try it. ( New Belgium Brewing fan instead since their local) Mm. Pretty artwork too. <3

I'm not too fond of IPA, but I'd give it a shot. By the way - not that I know much about marine reptiles - but what's so bad about the skeleton? Apart from the fact that the end of the tail isn't turned downwards, it does resemble a big ichthyosaur like Temnodontosaurus. (This is what a pliosaur looks like: www.plesiosauria.com/Rhomaleosaurus_skeleton.jpg)

Of course not all pliosaurs are long necked but in this case it is Ichthyosaurus.

Of course not all pliosaurs are long necked You're right there - the skeletal I linked to was the rhomaleosaurid Rhomaleosaurus (by Smith (who he?)), which had a longer neck for its size than the famous pliosaurid pliosaurs. But, I'm afraid, all pliosaurs DID have short tails.

We've already established that it is! I was very wrong though in thinking that it looked like a 'big' ichthyosaur. Shows what I know about marine reptiles. (Although I did know that it wasn't a plesiosaur... *trumpet*)

There is a local beer called "Tricerahops" made by the Ninkasi brewing Corp in Eugene, OR.
It makes my stomach very VERY upset.
It's very rare for anything to make my stomach upset.

I'd actually be interested in trying that one... where did you pick it up? I'll have to grab a bottle or two next time I'm in Eugene visiting friends.

"Tricerahops", that a great name! Although the review is not great I will need to get a sample next time I go through Eugene.

You can pick it up anywhere in WA and OR. Convenience stores, supermarkets, etc. It's common. 8.8% so expect to feel it good.
