I used to think this was just speculation, but apparently, Pixar has formally announced the development of a dinosaur-themed movie for 2013:
“What if the cataclysmic asteroid that forever changed life on Earth actually missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? This hilarious, heartfelt and original tale is directed by Bob Peterson (co-director/writer, ‘Up;’ writer, ‘Finding Nemo’) and produced by John Walker (‘The Incredibles,’ ‘The Iron Giant’).”
A quick online search of "pixar dinosaur movie" produces similar results.
By the way, I can never get the forum search function to work for me, so please feel free to lock if there's already a thread about this.

I think there is a thread about it already but like you I can never get that search function to work.
I'm really curious as yo how they're going to approach this movie. Are the dinosaurs going to have evolved human like intelligence and technology? Are they going to be the same as the actual dinosaurs we know of? Are they going to be further evolved and made up species? I'm thinking it will be the first, similar to Cars or that horrible Dreamworks movie Shark Tale.

Y'know I'm actually of the mind that it's going to end up as a mix of "We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story", Dinotopia and maybe just maybe with a dash of "Monsters' Inc.".
That's what I would hope for. There are no illusions of accuracy here for me. It is going to be silly and it could turn out wonderfully IF! the dinos lacked those horrid ping-pong eyes. I want something pretty and detailed like "Rango" but with dinosaurs. Let ILM do the animation and scales for it.

The reason for my sudden curiosity is... well, someone recently bought a Papo Tyrannosaurus from my shop. The shipping address said "Pixar Animation Studios."

What this really means is that a snarkier, pop-culture-laden Dreamworks one won't be far behind!
And both will better than either Disney's or any of the LBT (after the first one).
