Crinoids A plastic flowering aquarium plant can be customized to look like a crinoid. The photo on the left shows the original plant and also one stripped of leaves. The next photo shows the end result, looking like a pair of sea lilies about 6” tall. Most artificial flowers are made of silk, but plastic is available to decorate the fish tank. Ebay offers other choices of these plastic plants for just a few dollars, but most flowers are small. A wood burner was used to create the branches in the arms. The theca and holdfast are putty. Florist’s wire around the stem suggests columnals. The Ordovician fossils that I find tend to be small. At life scale, these crinoids would need to be young specimens. One of the things that I like about this forum is that it features other prehistoric life in addition to dinosaurs. Variety is nice.

Very imaginative Stem, they look like Kaiyodos! I agree. Very nicely done, I would be interested to see how you used them. Did you make a diorama?

It's always fun to use some cheap material to make something totally new and original! You should see the Glyptodon I made with Tiger porcelain shell as the back, a Turitella shell as the tail, four Spray-and-Wash bottle caps as the legs and a wooden carved head!

Great idea! Btw, in the Sauerland, where I live, you can find lots of fossils of sea lilies!
