everybody knows my little java ( just look at my sig). Well, he isn't doing good at all. He hasn't eaten for a week, he was stiff when I held him, and he never comes out of hiding. I think he is on his way to lizard heaven. I just wanted to share.

I'm sorry to hear that, it's always hard to lose a pet. I know it all too well.

I'm sorry to hear that--it can be hard to lose any pet. I've lost a few lizards (and big fish, and amphibians) myself, so I've been there.
How long have you had Java?

OMG IM SO SORRY CORDYLUS! This is terrible, I hate losing reptiles, but its even worse when they die slowly.... Let me tell you something that happened to me just a few days ago. Well, my dad went out to my shed (Im in L.A. he's their caretaker) and he was going to feed my fish, reptiles and amphibians, but he noticed the lock had broken off on my large cage. Then he saw that my bearded dragons and my skink were still inside, but all my leopard geckos escaped. He started to look for them in my shed, but only found two. And for days and days, he couldn't find butter....he told me and I started to freak out. It had been nearly a week and I prayed that he would find butter. I was afraid she had escaped through the front dooor, but I held out hope for her. To my surprise, the next morning, my dad calls and says he found her. She was under the refrigerated! I know this story doesn't help much, but what I'm telling you is to not give up hope. I recommend taking little java to the vet. Maybe they can do something for him. Until then pray for java. If Java does decide to join God, I will sticky a thread under pets in memory of him. Have faith Cordylus, Java may just make it. I will pray for him too...

I've had him for about four months That's going to make it tough. That's the trouble with the non-fuzzy pets--it's sometimes hard to know something is wrong until it's really obvious. I've been there (we had a favourite White's tree frog, and when he died after two years, frog keeping was never the same--we sold all of our frogs and our custom-made terrarium about a month later). I am dreading the day that my one remaing Polypterus (Pliny) passes on. I've had him for 13 years now, and he has moved with me to many different homes. He is now living in my office at the T. rex Centre.

He ate one mealworm, and I saw that he went for a swim in his water bowl because some sand was mixed in there. Man, I hope he will be okay

No probelm Cordylus! I'm glad to help you. I think Java will be fine. Maybe he was shedding? When reptiles shed, they tend to not eat and lie motionless. And if you don't see any skin maybe he ate? I don't know if armadillo lizards eat their skin, but I know my leopard geckos do lol. Remember, don't give up hope. Java will be okay!

I can't explain how he wasn't shedding, but I know he wasn't. When he sheds, things all around the cage will be overturned, pushed, etc. and nothing in the tank was like that. I really hope he is OK, and he just has a small "lizard cold" or something. If this goes on too much longer, a fecal sample and him will go straight to the vet.

Lest hope he gets better. Yes, the vet idea is probably your best bet if this carries on. Just hang on, we're not gonna lost Java!

Sorry Cordy, he's in my prayers. Hopefully he will get better. Losing a pet can be difficult. I'm still sad about my dwarf hamster, Squishy, that passed away last year on black Friday.
Tell him I'm thinking of him.

How long do these fellas get to live?

Armadillo lizards have a long longivity. They can live more then 20 years actually. Likewise, Leopard Geckos can live more then 20 years. Although Bearded Dragons only live for 10 years, blue-tongued skinks can excess 40 years.

Let him go into the wild and he might get a new lease on life. I only ever keep injured lizards untill they are ready for release and then let them go in the bush.

Good idea ajx, but sadly captive lizards cannot care for themselves in the wild. They grow used to having food presented to them and cannot care for themselves. Besides, it may not be his environment. You have to consider these qualities: heat, amount of water, food sources, natural predators, substrate, etc the list goes on. No lizard would make it by itself....sadly.
