I have heard that some of the Sideshow Apatosaurus models have arrived with broken tails- so their method isnt foolproof either- plus I dont see the need to carve styrofoam to ship models- maybe sideshow can afford to have those made for them, but not very practical for an independant artist to do-my method works for me- plus the packing materials are free, as I get Sunday newspapers from family and friends when I need it- and use plastic grocery bags to wrap the models in- recycle, reuse right?I do use some bubble wrap sometimes, but rarely-and only if I can get it free as recycled from retail packaging-I usually can violently shake my packages and you can hear absolutely no sound, no movement at all---like I said have shipped hundreds of models with only three instances, and those were minor- for example, Stoneage had a broken tip of a tail on an Acro- he is getting a new one from me in his next shipment, and can keep the other- one of the supersaurus arrived with a spine snapped off but that was it- pretty good consideringthe tail could easily snap in the wrong situation- but everyone has their own packing methods, I take a lot of time packing mine, one of the reasons I take so long to get out stuff- Yes the tail was broken off. Everything else in the shipment was fine and the box showed no damage. It's just one of those freak things. I have no skills but I super glued it back on. I don't think anyone would even notice the damage unless they really went over it with a fine toothed comb or I pointed it out to them.

Yeah I'm digging the new paint scheme myself...stripes are predators just seem..right. ;D I would guess she weighs around 2lbs maybe less. she is all hollow resin from what I can tell..at least the whole tail is and prob the main body as well. I would have much more pleased if she had solid though..or at least mostly solid or a bit thicker you know ? Would be nice to be able to drill into the pieces and peg them so they would be a lot more secure. The thin-ness seems like it would work better if it were vinyl ? Might be something for Galileo to look into ?

Hmmm ... Blade, in retrospect, I think you probably shouldn't have brought up your issue with Galileo in this forum ....not interested in who did what to who, frankly ... I have one of Galileo's Giganotosaurs and it arrived with no trouble at all...the casting was as flawless as it could possibly be ...

(Hindsight is 20/20) I don't think the situation can really be reasoned with at this point though *backs away slowly*

Yes, I agree ... perhaps the Mod should just lock this thread before it gets out of hand ... I sense that this is something personal that the rest of us really don't need to know about ...

Yeah, I think so too. Best to settle these things in private.

I didn't bring up anything really..I was asked....and I specifically said several times I wasn't looking to cause trouble. Honestly I have no anger or resentment here..just can't understand the aggression really. I'm on FB as well and haven't posted one negative thing there on Galiloe's profile. I'm def not mad about that commission deal..I've already got someone else for that..no worries. Mods can lock or whatever they feel is needed...just wanted to share this beautiful piece with you guys. Sorry for the trouble though.

I've said that since I started posting about his pieces here. Kit's ship fine, but I had trouble ith a built piece..that's the only thing I've said and I was just honest about it guys.

Blade, you haven't been offensive at all. This forum is for information and experiences exchange - nothing wrong with your criticism - you've been factual all over.
As a live playing musician for many years I have learned one thing: If you have a problem with people criticizing your work, stop to go public and let it be.

Thanks bud, I try to be honest as possible..and I didn't want to " bash ' Galileo at all. It's hard dealing with different view points and opinions, I've been told my own work is junk by some ( I like it ans some others do ) others say it's the best and I could make a fortune ( I know better ) . I really have no clue what's going on and what I did ?

the problem here, I think, is , first, the blaming from you Blade of the way the Acro was send by Galileo, it is not, by any ways necesary, that the damage of the model was the blame from the sculptor, and you assume that, from the materials and the box, your proves are not that consistent, because there can be other multiple factors. I understand that the shipping was from far beyond, and possibly that was the cause of the damage, or the same service, or, or, or... It is not appropiate to state your point of view so lightly, because you can be responsible of creating a bad reputation to this artist, that, by the way, is one of the best of this industry, when no one else have had problems with this situation of the shipping, me neither again, by the way. It is no good to create panic, just to prove something that you can't be sure. And if, as Galileo said, you have solved the situation in private, then, there was no need to blame the artist this way, in public. I think you wanted to discredit him. I read all your posts and I see that's the "underlying" intention, even in the same last posts. Truly sad, because that Acro, the resin model, is a masterpiece and the artists need help to sell their marvelous figures, not some vague opinion that can only do harm.

Frankly, while Martin IS the best dinopainter out there, barring perhaps Steve Riojas, his paint up of this Acro was not much better than Galileos. (FYI, I have known Martin and Marilyn since 2006 and am a long time admirer of his work.)
Also, after re-reading this thread, I have to agree with dex's post above.
For those who came in late: Galileo was very, very upset by this thread, he posted an emotional reply last night which has since been deleted.

As a live playing musician for many years I have learned one thing: If you have a problem with people criticizing your work, stop to go public and let it be. You forget, Saurichian, that you only have HALF the story. Which is why I think this thread was a bad idea. Galileo obviously feels differently, I won't repeat what he said in the now-deleted post, but it did seem to indicate that there might have been more going on that just what Blade posted here....

Well, I seem to have created a bit of a firestorm with my questions about the rebuild/repaint. Sorry, Blade. For what it's worth, I am a HUGE admirer of Galileo, and that won't change based what happened to this Acro. True, this thread does show a risk associated with shipping these models, but it also showcases Galileo's stunning artistry (Galileo's original paint is gorgeous!!).
I have to say I never perceived anything pejorative in what Blade said about Galileo. Anyone reading back through this can see that there was no intent to slander Galileo, or even mention the damage. I opened this can of worms by asking why Blade would repaint one of Galileo's models, and then asked for more details when I learned about the damage in shipment, since I also have a finished piece coming from Galileo.
I am very sorry to see Blade being mischaracterized here, and apologize to him for raising the issue. This seemed like a perfect place to discuss these issues, but it seems otherwise.
I also sincerely apologize to Galileo if I helped to cause any on the forum to consider his work to be anything other than what it is - rare and beautiful! I feel fortunate to be able to view and own the amazing pieces Galileo creates, and hope to add many more of his wonderful models to my meager collection.
I have to say though, that I'm a little confused by all of the hurt feelings. To me, this discussion seemed polite and completely appropriate for a forum of dinosaur (toy) enthusiasts. As someone who collects this work, I want to foster business for these artists (and I think we do a pretty good job of that in our own little community), not harm their future prospects. That said, these pieces can be expensive, and I think we should be able to share problems we encounter, as long as we do so accurately and respectfully. I think that was done here, so am a little concerned if the message is that we have to only say positive things about our experiences with artists, etc. even if that is only a partial truth.

Well, it's in all in how you read it I guess. I'm sorry again if it seemed like I was bashing or blaming instead of just giving a review as we always do here. That wasn't my intent at all.
Totoro, you asked a question and I answered you after thinking it over I don't think either of us were in the wrong. You bring up a good point though, how many times when an artist posts here or shows something off we just say " Amazing " or " Cool " and not try to give an honest opinion ? Some are genuinely looking for assistance and critique. It's odd we have no problem with toys but when it comes to a member's own work we halt ourselves. I'm guilty of doing the same as well..sometimes you just have nothing more to say and you feel bad for not saying something so the " Nice ! " or Woah ! " just pops out. It's definitely something to think about.
I hate to get dragged into anything, but I have a small right to defend myself a little I think. Anyone who cares to check out our FB profiles can see who is attacking who .
I really don't want to say anything else about this here publicly as it will just turn into an argument I fear. If you have an opinion feel free to PM me.

Where is anyone getting the idea that Blade blamed Gal for the damage? Blade was specifically asked why the model was rebuilt and repainted, and Blade answered truthfully that it arrived broken. Then he was specifically asked by another member how that happened, and he responded with this:
What exactly was he supposed to say when asked why the model was rebuilt, and why it arrived broken? You know, short of outright lying. He never blamed Gal, and even said he wasn't sure if Gal even packed it. He even went on to COMPLIMENT Gal on the pack job of a different sculpt.
To be completely honest, a model that large and delicate really needs to be packed double-boxed, and with a lot more to protect it than packing peanuts. Yes, technically it WAS the shipping service that broke the model, but you absolutely CANNOT expect breakage to not happen when a heavy model is packed in little more than loose styrofoam and peanuts! The ensuing discussion was civil and informative, IMO. I saw no blaming (unless you consider telling the truth about something to be "blaming"), only a very polite discussion about the best way to pack models, and even suggestions on how the internal designs of Gal's sculpts might be improved upon to help them travel safer. It also seems clear from Blade's posts that he DID try to discuss things privately with Gal and offer suggestions for how to improve shipping safety.
Regardless of any of this though, and since we are discussing it anyway, I feel Gal's reaction was completely out of line. Feeling insulted is not an excuse for publicly attacking another member. If you are going to get that upset and outright attack one of your buyers just because they openly admitted having received your model broken, then you might want to consider finding a friend or acquaintance to handle shipping and PR issues for you.
There is so much more I think I could say, but Tototro's last paragraph sums a lot of it up nicely.

I have one question for Blade--upon receipt of the model & found the damage that had been incurred during shipping, did you give Galileo the chance to repair & repaint the Acro? It seems to me that, if I'm wrong, please correct me,the model was sent directly to Martin straight way to be redone. If that is the case, I really can't blame Galileo for feeling slighted. Should the Acro been packed better for shipping? Absolutely. Could Galileo handled himself better on this topic than he did? Definitely. I'm not taking anyone's side here, as both Blade & Galileo are FB friends of mine. I'm just wondering if Galileo was notified of the models condition & given the chance to make good on it. If not, then I could see why Galileo reacted so angrily. If he told Blade to take a flying leap, then all bets are off..

Here or in fb (why the reference to fb, Blade?) I bet Galileo had compelling reasons for his words, there are details that scape our eyes because there exists a personal situation between them. Galileo's message here talked about Blade's revenge and a desperate claim from Galileo to Blade to leave his family alone. Anyway, Galileo has been banned and he has no opportunity to defend himself here, and my words can't perform any defense cause it will be an intromission from my part, however ihatefeathers144 question is pertinent, I would like to know the answer too.

Since you asked a specific question, yeah I told Galileo about it when it arrived. He was very sorry and apologetic and he wanted me to send it back to him for repairs, I think I would have paid for the shipping there, but don't quote me. I was honestly thinking what the chances are it would just happen again though with the rough treatment from I believe the Mexican postal service, when Martin stepped in and I told Galileo about his offer to do it for me minus shipping and we were good on it at that point.
