The Canadian Museum of Nature here in Ottawa, Ontario isn't nearly as big as the ROM in Toronto, but it's still a top notch facility with superb displays of birds, mammals, sea life, gems, and, of course, dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals! This exterior photo is a few years out of date. The glass tower has been completed since May 2010. Chasmosaurus/Vagaceratops stands guard on one side of the building with its baby. A family of woolly mammoths occupies the other side.

Dinosaurs aren't all the CMN has to offer. Here's a family of Brontotheres. Scimitar cat And finally, some wonderful transitional whale forms. First up, Pakicetus Second, Ambulocetus And third, Dorudon There's plenty more I didn't photograph. Be sure to check out the CMN if you're in town!

It's a good thing for the CMN that there were lots of fossils (mammal and dinosaur) in Saskatchewan and Alberta to get at.

Thank you so much for sharing these. I'm fascinated by the architecture of the museum too. Do you perhaps know when it was originally built?

Thank you for sharing these. It is truly a beautiful looking place! The facade reminds me of a medieval castle. (It also reminds me that I still haven't posted my pics from November at the AMNH. ) Help me out guys. I'm a little confused about the coupling of Chasmosaurus and Vagaceratops in the second pic. Is there some dispute going on about these two animals possibly being the same animal? If so, I haven't heard about it. (Which isn't that surprising. )

Looks like a really cool museum, even if the mounts seem to indicate that someone's 'forcing' bunny hands (what's going on with that Carnotaurus!?!). Thanks for sharing the photos.
Meso: Vagaceratops was originally described as a species of Chasmosaurus.

Thanks Marc! I knew one of you "brainiacs" would have an answer for this lowly toy collector.
