Ferrets are close cousins of the mongoose though. No more than the sense that cows are close cousins of hippos.

There is an easy way to tell a stoat from a weasel - Weasels are weasily recognizable but stoats are stoatally different. (sorry) Curse you...

*ducks all the rotten fruit being thrown my way* Your hiilarious dinotoyforum! Did you make that up? ;D But seriosuly, did you?. Pshhh. Post a link showing me that mongooses aren't closely related to ferrets and I'll believe you, but so far all the sites say they are. I know they are in different families, but they are still closely related...

Post a link showing me that mongooses aren't closely related to ferrets and I'll believe you, but so far all the sites say they are. I know they are in different families, but they are still closely related... What do you mean closely related? They are two families within the same Order of mammals (Carnivora) but they are in separate suborders, and evolved on separate continents, in separate hemispheres. Again, it is a matter of how you mean close.--technically, humans are close to lemurs, but the differences are more striking than the similarities in many ways. Then I will find you a link. EDIT Better yet, I will show the phylogeny now. The mongooses are in Herpestidae, weasels in Mustelidae.

Heres that link for you. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CarnivoraIts an understandable mistake. I bump into people who that sort of stuff all the time, and it shocks me because many of them even work with the animals, like zoo keepers. I can't tell you how much I have to keep telling folks hornbills are not closely related to toucans, but because they are similar looking due to convergent evolution, well.... "No pet is better then any other pet. They are all just as caring as the other and both have their good and bad aspects. To be a true animal lover, you must love and respect all pets, not just a cat or dog." (just because I wanted to clarify my own feelings on this)...I get this feeling polar bears would make a pretty terrible "pet", no matter how much someone wanted to make one a "pet". I am sure cats and dogs make fine pets for many folks. They adapt to peoples homes, schedules, and lives. I know 90% of the animals I keep would fail to make people good "pets" in the sense of an animal that would snuggle with you or play with a ball, or something that would sit calmly by the fire place. Granted, I think all animals are fascinating, but I usually try to make sure I identify the fact that crows, kookaburras, monitor lizards, crocodilians, and alligator snapping turtles really do not make good "pets" in the sense that a "normal" person considers an animal a "pet". (as a side note, if I were going to have to pick between domesticated dogs vs domesticated cats, I would go with cats. Just a personal preference)

;D When it comes to loyalty Dogs win hands down. Let someone attack you and see who come to protect you the Dog or the Cat. Ferrets stink might as well have a skunk. Relative to eveything else except fish Lizards and Amphibians are bottom feeders. Tyrannax you live in a zoo. You should get a pack of dirty Rats. Then you could live happily ever after. ;D

Also, none of them live on the ocean bottom, so they can't feed there anyway. And most fish are not bottom feeders. It would get pretty crowded. And why are you giving Tyrannax a hard time? What did he do?

Yep i love pets and animals, but i love to eat them too (not my pets) My current pet list includes: 1 x Donkey (named Donks) 1 x Pony (named Pones) 7 x Cats (Monk & Molly the twin tortise shell girls, Krystal, Kenny, Monet, Jarque and Butters 7 x Guinni Fowls they eat all the grubs and bugs (did have 14 but they only have short lives) 3 x Staffy Dogs (Russo, Rose & Bozo) 1 x Beautifull Male Peacock untill 4 days ago (flew into the dog yard and was dogs dinner) 5 x Australian Bird Eating Spiders (i hate them, they are my partners) Tons of fish And currently 1 baby Magpie (australian bird) looking after it untill release because its parents dumped it. I have a reptile licence but dont like keeping lizards, frogs ect as pets, I do find many injured Bearded Dragons in my area (road accidents ect) and only look after them untill i can release them back into the bush. They will start to appear soon as summer is almost upon us here in OZ.

What did he do? Polar Bears and Crocodiles may not be handable pets, but they can still be cared for as pets! Pets are not "better" just because you can hold some of them. How much you love a pet is a personal preference. All animals and pets are equally great. They have their ups and downs, it just depends on what you like. A zoo? My ferret dosen't stink. Maybe your talking about the unkept ferrets at Petco? Yes, they stink, but my ferret gets a bath every week. He's got his own lil shampoo bottle ;D My reptiles don't stink...neither do my cats or dogs, etc. Depends on how clean you keep their cages or what not. Just because I love animals so much why do you have to cut me down? I mean, I'm just defending the fact that I love all pets the same.. Thanks sbell......and now that I see the pic I can see how wrong I was! I thought ferrets were atleast on the same lines as mongooses, but now I can see they are on two different sides of the evolutionary fence! ;D ;D Does anyone agree with me on the pet thing? I'm thinking crazycrowman is more apt to think of all pets the same.... (Dogs protect you yes, but not all dogs. Cats may not protext, but they have many aspects about them that make them great lil companions. Is that really the only reason why you choose dogs over cats? ) (Some cats kill mice and to some people this is great, but not all cats do this. Does that make them better then dogs? I don't think so.) I think I've proved my point ;D

Actually, marine iguanas do feed on the ocean bottom. They eat kelp there. True. They can't stay under long because the current can bash them against the rocks. They have to go when the tide is low.

Cats poop inside in litter boxes, outside, or the couch in your cats case, its clean.
