Having found this forum I am delighted to find so many enthusiasts.
When I first visited the British Museum many years ago I was able to find an assortment of 22 different types of sculpts cast in plastic. They are much smaller than those produced by Safari and Papo which are 1;40, would anyone have an idea what scale they are, and what the entire collection comprised?.
Secondly I was able to find about 9 different models made by "Smithsonian" These models are 1;24 scale. I would be grateful to know how many different types of dinosaurs were made.
Needless to say I am a Collector at heart with great affinity towards these most delightful creatures.
Lastly are the three current manufactures compatible in scale, ie Safari (Carnegie), Papo and Schleich?
Thanks for your input.

Welcome! To try to answer your questions, the British museum figs were probably Invicta, seen here: www.dinosaurcollector.150m.com/invicta.htmThey are 1/45 scale. The Smithsonian ones were probably the rereleased dinoriders figures seen here: www.dinoriders.com/Go to toys, then smithsonian institution. Carnegie and Schleich are 1/40 scale. Papo is not technically, but it usually works out to about that scale. Battats were also 1/40 scale, and some bullyland are 1/40. Hope that helps! theri

Thank you Theri.
Having viewed those sites they are exactly what I accumulated many years ago. The Invicta sure look a whole lot better painted. I am most grateful to you for your input. Having visited the New York Natural History Museum and acquired some Carnegie/Safari dinosaurs I am now very eager to assemble my collection into a display, not sure whether a diorama or just a manufacturer type display. I observed that you are partial to the Carnegie brand. Would that be because of the depth of sculpts? Have any manufacturer released any of the huge Titanosaurs, ie Ultrasuarus or even larger? Are you aware of any work done by collectors on customising the manufacturers sculpts with pictures here on the forum? Once again many thanks for your input and I sincerely appreciate your depth of knowledge of this facinating theme.

Actually not all Invictas were 1/45. The Trodon(Stenonychosaurus) was 1/10 scale and the blue whale which I believe was suppose to be 1/80 scale is more like 1/167. The Icythyosaurus was way to big for its scale. The plesiosaurus appears to be an elasmosaurus. The T-Rex tail is too long and the Triceratops tail is too short. Although some are off a little, generally being on the small size, they did a pretty good job.

Plus, the "pliosaur" is a Liopleurodon.
How did you notice I'm in love with Carnegies? ;D I like them for many reasons: Many if not most of the sculpts are beautiful, the paint jobs are fantastic, they are widely available, I have an emotional attachment to many of my early figures, and I love the 20 years of history. Collect them, you won't regret it!

They are very small figures unfortunately Yah, I would love it if someone made a 1/40 scale siesmo, Ultra, or argentina! But the figures will probably be very big!

Could always just re-name my 1/35 brachiosaur.....he is head and shoulders above the rest....snicker. I think it is a matter of cost effectiveness. Much bigger than the 08 diplo, and you start talking some real money cost wise. And for a toy? Perhaps they just don't see a market for it, beyond us collectors, obviously.

I don't think I have ever had the pleasure of seeing his collection/art work since I joined I do know that he has some photos of some of his figures in the dinosaur forum site.
