Well birthday boy, most people would want to keep their dippys in a nice, ublemished, unsoiled-by-acrilic-paint state. ;D

Nah, I wouldn't care anymore. You are just making the value of unsoiled/unblemished ones go up. ;D

^^^^ sssoooo, my paint jobs soil them, and are blemishes?? ^^^stops listening to CT. LALALALALALALALALALAL Well, in a way, yes. There is no real market for heavily customized figures, so I guess it could be called "blemishing". Blemishing or not, a customized--even just repainted--figure is no longer 'valuable' to a collector who is looking for the original figure. Even if the paint job is excellent, and the colour is better than before, that repainted figure will not be worth quite the same. At least for truly valuable, rare pieces--think Starlux Cephalaspis & Drepanaspis (right Tomhet!?--imagine if he painted one of those?); Battat Diplo; Play Visions small reptiles, amphibians or mammals as well as the large mammals; Bullyland Deinotherium or Andrewsarchus; some of the Dino Riders figures; even the Schleich Shonisaurus--they are only really valuable in original form. Others, like Marxes, MPCs and current Schleich, Safari, Procon and Papo figures are more or common or easily available that they are not 'valuable' in terms of money, and so are less likely to cause heart palpitations when you paint one. And by customizing any one of those (note--you will never get to try painting any of my Starluxes or Play Visions ;D) they would only become more costly as yet more become unavailable. Is this saying that a figure is only valuable in terms of money? Sometimes. Sometimes there is a personal side to it, or sometimes people will just go to crazy lengths for an animal they like. But overall, as collectors, there is monetary as well as emotional value.

I never, ever consider the monetary side. Never have I bought anything with an eye toward resale, or just because it is rare. The only real interest i have in the battats are the ones I consider nicely done. Even if I had the money, i am not out there looking for their rex, or dilopgo, say. I know, many people like the rex bestest, but I don't. And I abhor the dilopho. I could not say, about the diplo. I have only seen pics, and we all know how that is. But, I never buy anything for resale. Even when collecting comics, I read every single book. Carefully, but read them nonetheless. I always took my action figures out of the box. Some of the more stubborn ones, I even glued into the position i wanted. It is just the way I am. I don't know if that makes me a collector or not. I do have a need to have a complete collection, like with my Doctor Who videos. But I just do not feel that with the dinos. And, I buy only the museum lines, or equivelant. I do not buy Chap mai, for instance. At x-mas, my TRU had dozens of those Plesiosaurs. But, they are obvious toys, and not something I really want. Nor did I snag them to resell later. It is just not what i do. So, I guess i just don't have the same problem with the repaints. If it is a fig I like, I try to get it. If I like it as is, I keep it that way---I have not repainted everything.....
Sbell, it was two posts. I have seen far sillier stuff posted that has not been deleted. And far more personal stuff discussed openly. I am truly hurt. Not kidding. I post one or two silly things in over a thousand, and I am "clogging up" the forum? Really? tsk.

They were deleted quickly because I saw them early, before it got out of hand. As for monetary value, I do agree--I am a tag-remover as soon as I can, and only rarely keep them (I did keep the tag on my new Carnegie mosasaur, though, because I already have one). I have no need for boxes, etc. All I am saying is that there is a monetary aspect, whether it guides you or not. I have only very rarely made purchases with an eye to resale, and usually it is because I find a lot with something I want, plus doubles--this is most common with smaller figures--or because I know it is something that would be of interest to other people. In fact, having kids makes it even harder to even resell doubles--anyone here who has received a Chick Yuet mammal or two from me would not believe the noise that caused!

;D Even though there were some interesting names, I never would have guessed someone would pay that kind of money for them! They are terrible sculpts, hollow and the legs are only done on the outside!

At least for truly valuable, rare pieces--think Starlux Cephalaspis & Drepanaspis (right Tomhet!?--imagine if he painted one of those?); Yes, that would be tragic ;D *hides Drepanaspis from Kevin* Unless a figure is badly damaged, I don't like to give them new paintjobs. An unpainted model? Of course, but not to an already painted item. I'm pretty sure I'm never going to sell my figures but I still have their value in mind, so repainting them would mean damaging them.

I feel that way too, But the big lot of Safari dinosaurs i got recently had bad paint scratches so there is much re-painting to do, Im still learning and not as good as Teton yet but im slowly getting there. Its also fun to paint Chinasaurs and try and make them look better.

Are you talking about those blue Tootsie Toys figure? Wow Why on earth is anyone paying $200 - 300 for a SINGLE figure? I got my dinosaur (complete?) one last summer for less than $10 each! I do have the brontothere, the only mammal from the set that I have These figures really outpaced both the Battat Acro, Bully mastodonto and Deinotherium in price!

$100 for the big Procon T. Rex is the most that I've spent on a single Dinosaur figure.
