I've had a really bad cold for five days, and starting tonight apparently I have caught the flu as well. I have a test in my paleontology class this friday too! When I get the flu, I get it hard and for almost a week. So since all my rl friends are either vacationing in Japan, working in Calgarie, or not going to school and have no idea - I'm asking you guy's advice on this. I want to know what I should do here - should I go to class all sick and contageous and take the test, or should I stay at home, skip it, and hope my prof. will allow me to make it up? Any advice would be great - sorry I'm posting this here but I don't have anyone else to ask

Is it possible to contact your professor, and simply ask what he thinks? Barring that, I guess the selfish answer would to be take the test. I am sorry for all of the innocent classmates, but they are just as much at risk simply riding a bus or going grocery shopping. I will go out on a limb, and assume that you have worked hard to do well in class, and presumably spent good money to do so, so I say you owe it to yourself to do the best job on that test that you can.
However, if your symptoms, or the meds used to deal with them, impair your ability to do well on the test, then perhaps working out an arrangement would be better for you? I know, social niceties would say, please try not to infect the masses, but I am anti-social, and figure screw the masses.
Seriously though, if you think you can take the test, and do well, I think you should. You owe it to yourself. And, are you still contagious by the time the symptoms hit you? I thought one was most contagious right before, while you are still feeling good. i know that is the way Mono works....don't ask!

I will probably go with your advice and take the test on the day I'm supposed to. the only thing really holding me back is the hour-long bus ride there, the 1.5 hour-long class, then the hour-long bus ride back not too fun! but you're right, I really should be giving my all for this class and when your family is shelling out $500+ for it, you should do your best to be there ... (not to mention I love this class anyway!) thanks :3

If you are ill enough to get a doctor's note (do you have that system in the US?) then you will be allowed to retake the exam when you are better. Only doctors notes (or other official extenuating circumstances) exempt you from an exam - it has to be official or else anyone could pretent to be ill and add a few unfair days to their revision time.
If not - you could try contacting your prof. or just make sure you get plenty of sleep and healthy food! Good luck on the test when it goes ahead and get better soon!!!

I'd contact your professor.
But, when I took Dinosaurs 101 (at Rutgers), I got sick and missed two weeks of class. When I returned, it turned out that the professor was ending the semester early, and the final was that day. He spoke so quickly that I didn't even have a chance to get up and tell him until the tests were handed out and everything got quiet. Then he had to interrupt the class to get someone to give me their notes so I could study what I missed and take the exam at a later date.
It was like those anxiety nightmares everyone has on occasion.
Got an A in the class though. Just sayin'.
Good luck.

take something with paracetamol several times a day, and take the maximum dose. Also take Vitamin C, and good luck.
